Last year's UK Co-ops Fortnight saw 290 events and online publicity reaching nearly 2 million. Co-operatives trended on twitter for the first time, becoming one of the most popular topics.

NSW ParliamentNew law cuts red tape
In a national first, NSW Parliament recently passed legislation to 'empower co-operatives, slash red tape and reduce costs.'

The Co-operatives (Adoption of National Laws) Bill 2012 and the Co-operatives National Law have been implemented to remove restrictions on co-operatives doing business in other states and territories, as well as streamlining financial reporting requirements for smaller co-operatives.

ABS Year Book
Co-operatives and IYC 2012 are featured in latest edition of the ABS Year Book of Australia. Since its inception in 1908, Year Book Australia has presented feature articles of interest to Australian society. The 2012 Year Book content includes co-operative values and principles, the history of co-ops, the regulation of co-operatives and their diversity. IYC 2012 Secretariat co-ordinated more than 25 written contributions from co-operative, mutual and credit union representatives. Read more. Order your copy

ACTU backs co-ops
The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has endorsed the International Labour Organisation's (ILO) position on co-operative organisations, recognising the critical role they play in advancing the Global Employment Agenda and promoting fair working conditions.
