Although the current guidelines have not changed since 21st August, and in light of what is happening interstate, we continue to urge you to remain vigilant as you plan for worship and coordinate events and activities. National Child Protection Week

Running from the 5th to the 11th September 2021, National Child Protection week occurs annually across Australia and raises awareness of child abuse prevention. UCAs National Safe Church Unit works in partnership with Synods and the Assembly and provides support tools and resources.

Suicide Awareness

The Synod Working Group on the ‘Suicide: No Secret’ campaign has produced a banner which invites passers-by to tie a ribbon in memory of someone lost to suicide. If your church would like a banner kit (includes banner, ribbons, ribbon holder) please contact Scots Church Adelaide on (08) 8223 1505.

Aunty Lucy Lester - A Tribute

Ian Dempster has written about his fond memories of Aunty Lucy Lester who recently passed away. He remembers her as one of the early Congress leaders involved in the formation of Congress and how at Port Augusta she became a mentor for Aunty Denise, now Rev Dr Denise Champion.

Who is God calling to be our next Moderator?

Nominations are now being sought for our next Moderator. An election will be held at the 2022 Synod meeting, and the new Moderator will take up the role at the 2023 Synod meeting. Nominations can be made by individuals or churches by 30 September 2021 and must go via the presbyteries.

Scots Church is hosting a meaningful but relaxed day that will enable visitors to find out about their own brain health, ways in which they may build mental resilience, learn new skills and get support during tough times. It will also be a time to tie a ribbon in remembrance of loved ones who have died or been affected by suicide.

Prayer Points

This week we pray for:

  • For all communities coming to terms with COVID-19 and for those that have become isolated and separated from family and friends during on-going lockdowns
     
  • We pray for the Australian Government that it acts urgently, swiftly and compassionately and with leadership in responding to the crisis in Afghanistan
     
  • We continue to pray for the people of Afghanistan and for the safety of all in the region at this time.

 


Reflection

It is easy enough to take in good stuff; we come to church, we read our Bibles, we pray, we listen to fabulous sermons and even play Christian music … somehow over the hours that follow, the good stuff then gets changed as it passes through us.
