Reflection

Background to the Feast of All Saints (November 1)
The feast of All Saints began in the Eastern Churches to commemorate all martyrs and was progressively adopted in the West. It was celebrated on this day in the eighth century and soon became widely observed. Honoured today are all holy men and women in glory with Christ, known or unknown, mighty or lowly, all whose lives were modelled on the Beatitudes and on the great commandment of love. (Daily Mass Book 2017).
The whole school will be attending mass at 10:30am on this day.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
Last Thursday we held a successful transition evening for our Year 6 students and parents. This session was facilitated by James Golds and Matt Hartnett. Going from Year 6 to 7 is a significant change. Secondary schools are far bigger than primary schools, and students have to adapt to learning from a variety of teachers, changes in curriculum and ten day timetables. The transition session provided many valuable tips for our year 6 students, and I thank Dee McDonnell for organising the evening. I’m also most appreciative of the year 6 families who attended the evening. Finally good luck to the Year 11 and 12 VCE students who are about to undertake exams.

Religious Education

Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the school children experienced The Walking Rosary at school. This was a dedication to Mary, and all the classes were looking at Mary in their Religious Education Unit. The journey with Mary was created with a large rosary bead set up in the multi purpose hall, and the children walked around the beads saying a decade or more of the rosary. The children were all able to participate in reciting the prayers of The Hail Mary, Glory Be and The Our Father. The Walking Rosary aimed to create a peaceful environment which was ideal for meditation and quiet reflection. When l popped in to see how some of the classes were going-they were certainly in the moment of reflection and meditation.Thank you to the Social Justice team for helping set up the rosary bead and for keeping an eye on the tea light candles for us!

On Friday, there will be a whole school mass celebrating All Saints day. Mass will be at 10.30 am and all are welcome to come and join in the celebration with us.

A reminder that our final Hospitality mass for 2019 will be on the 17th November. This is a particularly special one, as it involves our Foundations of 2019 together with the Foundations of 2020. Hope to see quite a few of you there to celebrate this special time for our foundations.

Sports

Basketball

Basketball clinics involving ALL students have begun. The clinics will continue on the following Wednesdays:

October 30th, November 6th,13th and 20th.

Kaboom

Kaboom! What a morning we had last Wednesday.

The tunes were blaring, Mr Allen and Miss K were showing the moves and the DJ was hyping us up ready for a rotation of 10 fun activities. The Huge inflatable target, the golfing, spear throwing and the velcro ball throwing were some of the fabulous stations. We were happy, we were healthy!

It is fun to move our bodies and enjoy the exercise with different activities other than a basketball or footy game.

Thank you to all the Year Six students for leading the whole school.

Student Representative Council Initiative

Don't forget we are still collecting plastic lids. We are asking all families to wash and save any plastic lids for you all to bring them to school.

Envision Hands, a company in Melbourne will then collect and break down the lids into different coloured special inks that are used in 3D printers. They will make artificial limbs for children living overseas.

We have set up boxes in the LLC for you to drop in your plastic coloured lids during Term 4. We would like to collect at least 1,000 lids so please save your milk and juice lids over the holidays and bring them in.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask one of the SRC people

Parents and Friends

NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS

The St Anne's Parent's and Friends Association Annual General Meeting will be held at 7:30pm on Wednesday 13th November in the Multi-Purpose Hall.

All parents are invited (enter via Windella Avenue).

All positions are open to nomination, but in particular we are looking to fill the following Executive Committee positions:

- Vice President
- Treasurer

The P&F Association Meetings take place once a month (11 per year), commencing at 7:30pm and finishing at 8:30pm at the latest.

Nomination applications are available through the skoolbag app.

2020 Class Representatives
We would also like parents to advise at this time if they would like to be a Class Representative in 2020, we require 1-2 parents per Year Group next year. The main role of the Class Representatives is to communicate with the families in your class / year group about events happening throughout the year such as Hospitality Mass and to assist with Mother's & Father's Day Stalls, Grandparent's Day and the Teacher's Lunch. The Class Representatives are lead by a Class Rep Co-ordinator.

2020 Fundraising Committee
We are also seeking expressions of interest to join the 2020 Fundraising Committee. We welcome new ideas for what the major fundraising event could be in 2020 (for the past two years we have held a Dinner Dance and the year prior was a Disco Night). If you would like to be part of this committee in 2020, please let us know.

If you have any questions regarding the above roles or any other P&F Association positions available, please contact the P&F Secretary Lisa Hodgkinson on lis_burns@yahoo.co.uk

Community News

Hi,

My name is Kirsty Hewitt.  I had my 3 children attend St Annes over the years and some of you might remember that for the last 10 or so years I have travelled to and from Fiji regularly taking over donations each time mostly to villages in Suva and Lautoka.

Each time I go I mostly take clothing but I like to see what they are in need of most.  I’ve noticed mobile phones are expensive for them and break easily due to the environment they live in.

So if anyone has any old working mobile phones and would like to donate these they would be greatly appreciated.  I will set these up with local sims and give them to the most at need.  It doesn’t matter if the screens are slightly damaged as long as they are in working order and with a charger.

Many thanks and I can be either contacted on 0405622097 or they can be dropped off at the office so I can collect.
