Showcase: tonight 4-7pm

We are very excited about NBCS Showcase 2014, tonight from 4-7pm. Students and staff have been working hard to prepare a fantastic event, putting their learning on display.

Some program highlights include learning displays in all the Primary classrooms, including The Ugly Bug Ball in Stage 1, Greenfingers TV and help in Stage 2, and GO Business markets in Stage 3; HSC Major Works for Visual Arts in the SCIL Building and rear of the MPC; an “egg-drop” demonstration hosted by Science from the DY/DX balcony at 4pm; highlights from the recent GO Program trips to Uganda and Rwanda, and the upcoming trip to Cambodia; and a broad range of live performances by our Extra-curricular bands and ensembles, Year 12 Drama group performances, and Year 11 Music recitals.

The full program, map and live performance schedule can be downloaded at the link below. We look forward to seeing you there.

L Plate Drivers

A reminder as the number of L plate drivers increases during the school year – students coming into the school on L plates must drive around the turning circle (near the SCIL Building) and change their plates on the bush side of the drive through car park.

Animals on site

All schools have to be animal welfare compliant as part of their ongoing registration. This means that the school is an animal-free zone unless the Principal provides direct permission for an animal (e.g. dog) on site. At the same time the Principal has to ensure the compliant use of animal parts for scientific experiments.

Given that there are children who have anxiety or allergy issues connected with dogs or cats, no pets are allowed to be brought on to the school campus, except with express permission of the Principal. That permission would always be linked to educational outcomes.

Under no circumstances should dogs be let off a leash inside the school, left in vehicles or tied to a fence.

Caring for Personal Digital Devices

Students in Years 4-12 bring a laptop or tablet device to school for use in the learning environment – a process that has been transformative for learning, with students empowered to be more independent, and able to engage with content and outcomes in a hands-on and flexible manner.

The school will assist students in trouble-shooting and solving problems where possible, but ultimately issues that relate to a student’s accidental loss of their devices, or damage to their property must be dealt with by the family, and is not the responsibility of the school.

We remind parents that the school’s insurance does not cover loss or damage of a Personal Digital Device, however caused. We strongly recommend that families investigate personal insurance that covers their child’s PDD whilst at school.

Empowering Parents

Parenting Ideas Magazine Issue 12:

In association with our Empowering Parent Seminars, we have been providing additional weekly parent information sheets to support NBCS parents. Some information will be more relevant to Primary than Secondary and vice versa. This is to support families within our school community covering all age groups.

If you would like an information sheet on a specific topic sent via Wavelength, please contact Mrs Anne Jobson via the School Office (9450 1311).
