Emily Shiel Pelvic Health Physiotherapy joined the GSSC team this week Specialised Pelvic Health Services on board at GSSCThe Great Southern Specialist Centre welcomed Emily Shiel Pelvic Health Physiotherapy services this week. Emily is a Women's, Men's and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and will be offering a specialised service that complements existing services already on offer at the GSSC. A physiotherapist with post graduate training in pelvic health works alongside urologists, gynaecologists, urogynaecologists, obstetricians, general surgeons and gastroenterologists to assist people in managing complex conditions. Emily's clinical area of special interest and advanced training is focused on continence, pelvic health and pre and post natal care. Emily is able to liaise with GP’s and specialists to support with treatment to improve client health. She is able to assess the internal muscles of the pelvic floor using real time ultrasound and also internal pelvic examination. She will also assess Pelvic Organ Prolapse using the POP-Q assessment process. With over 20 years experience and a Post Graduate Masters Degree in Continence & Women's health, Emily has achieved recognition as a Titled Physiotherapist as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapy in 2017. She grew up in the UK and completed her physiotherapy training at Keele University in the UK. After working in Nottinghamshire she moved to the USA to work in ICU and acute care. In 2000 Emily relocated to Albany and worked in the Child Development Team at Albany Regional Hospital and since 2004 has worked in private practice. Physiotherapy for pelvic health includes urinary and bowel dysfunctions for men, women and children as well as the management of pelvic organ prolapse. It also includes the assessment, management and treatment of pelvic pain disorders. Men benefit from pelvic physiotherapy both pre and post prostatectomy to assist with urinary leakage and erectile dysfunction.
