In Mid-July, Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region (CEDRR) launched the latest phase in Rutland County’s Regional Marketing Initiative – known as Real Rutland – to attract new residents to the Rutland Region. The latest phase is designed to attract new workers to the region to increase the local workforce. At the launch event, CEDRR Executive Director, Lyle
Jepson, shared a preview of a relocation incentive program that would be specific to Rutland County. Without giving too much away, Jepson shared the program was expected to launch within a month and be made available to individuals and families moving into Rutland County. Last week, Real Rutland’s Relocation Incentive Program was made live with new outbound marketing materials made available which quickly resulted in an influx of new interested families considering a move to our region. “We are so grateful to our regional sponsors who are supporting this incentive program to bring new
individuals and families to our region to fill our jobs, engage with our community, and build their lives here,” says Jepson. “Our concierge team remains ready and willing to support new residents into Rutland County.” The incentive program is available for 30 families on a first-come-first-served basis and is valued at over $2,000 per package and the application process is available through December 1, 2021, or while prizes and incentives last. To be eligible, you must relocate to Rutland County, Vermont within 6-months of being entered into the program. Proctor Gas hosted the August CEDRR mixer at their Market Street location last Tuesday and it was a sizzling time! The crew at Proctor Gas generously opened their air-conditioned office for the 50 plus attendees to mingle about while avoiding the humid weather outside. Franklin's Restaurant catered the event supplying a bar, chicken wings, and barbeque must-haves galore. Judy
Taranovich, the owner of Proctor Gas, even brought her famous sausage, onions, and peppers to accompany the spread. The showroom was filled with sweet treats and conversations of Rutland County business members catching up with one another. The event concluded with 10 door prizes being drawn, all donated from local businesses. If you or your organization is interested in donating a door prize or hosting a mixer, please contact Penny Inglee at penny@rutlandvermont.com. Be sure to make your calendars for the next CEDRR Mixer hosted by Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty being held at Roots the Restaurant on Tuesday, September 14th. The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) has approved $18.6 Million in new awards to 44 projects as of August 4, 2021. The awards are part of the annual State Economic & Infrastructure Development (SEID) grant round. These projects are matched by an additional $47 Million in public and private investments, resulting in $65.6 Million in total investment across the four-state NBRC region, including portions of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. These projects will unfold over the next three years, and all of this
year’s awardees are listed on the NBRC’s website, www.nbrc.gov. The Vermont Farmers Market Education Center, Inc. was awarded a grant in the amount of $350,000. The grant will be put towards the construction of the Commercial Kitchen Center. This center will house a product development kitchen for lease to 5-10 local food entrepreneurs per year, and a culinary training kitchen that will certify up to 25 students per year in food safety and preparation. The 2021 SEID grant round was the NBRC’s most competitive to date. NBRC received 156 applications that collectively
requested $81 Million, a 16% increase in requests over 2020. The program continues to attract new grantees as the NBRC expands outreach throughout the region: In 2021, 82% of applicants were new to the program, following 86% in 2020. The funds for this program, and all NBRC programs, are available thanks to the support of the Congressional Delegations of all four NBRC states: Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. Depending on the availability of funds, the NBRC anticipates another round of SEID awards in 2022. Additionally, Letters of Interest for the NBRC’s Regional Forest Economy Partnership (RFEP) are currently being accepted now through September 10, 2021. Please refer to NBRC’s website, www.nbrc.gov, for announcements about current and future Funding Opportunities.
The Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative (VOREC) Community Grant Program helps Vermont communities leverage their local outdoor recreation assets for greater economic vitality and many other co-benefits. Grants help Vermont communities grow their local economies by funding a variety of outdoor recreation-related activities that support the five pillars of VOREC: - Grow outdoor recreation-related businesses.
- Increase participation in outdoor recreation activities among all demographics.
- Strengthen the quality and extent of outdoor recreation resources.
- Increase stewardship of outdoor recreation resources and environmental quality.
- Promote and enjoy the health and wellness benefits of outdoor recreation.
This year, there is $5,100,000 in one-time state general funds available in grants for non-profit organizations and municipalities. Staff aim to fund up to 25 projects that span a variety of “buckets” including equity, multi-community efforts, and smaller local efforts. Grant minimums will be set at
$50,000, with no maximum, to encourage regional scale thinking. There is no match requirement for these grants, but leveraged funds are encouraged. Previous VOREC grants have funded programs that benefit Vermont’s outdoor recreation economy through activities like developing wayfinding and signage to educate locals and visitors and connect them with businesses, increasing trail connections, and creating marketing materials that encourage people to explore expanded recreational opportunities. Applicants can find more information about the grant program and the 2021 application process on the grant website. Learn more →
Stained glass was just one of the shops where visitors got to try their hand at making at The MINT during MINTacular 2021. All of The MINT’s knowledgeable shop leaders were on hand to help guests with make-and-take projects and lead demonstrations on some of The MINT’s most powerful equipment.
The MINT:
Rutland’s Makerspace recently welcomed area residents to tour their more than 14,000 square feet of community-accessible manufacturing space at MINTacular 2021. Thanks to The MINT’s amazing volunteers and shop leaders the event was a stunning success. The good news at The MINT keeps coming with the delivery of a powerful new tool for the woodshop. An X-Carve Pro, a CNC routing table from Instructables, was delivered just in time to show off the unopened box at MINTacular. The MINT crew is in the process of setting up the X-Carve with training for members and non-members starting up in the next few weeks. The CNC is 4’x4’ with the ability to tile, essentially making it 4’x whatever you need. It will be joining a 4’x8’ table already in the woodshop, near the joiner. One of the biggest differences
between the new table and the 4’x8’ is the Instructables design software, Easel. It massively reduces the learning curve for those unfamiliar with using computer-aided design. Like the Glowforge in The Boiler, there is an existing library of fun projects just waiting to be carved! Learn more about the MINT→
