No images? Click here Term 2 has been very busy with students and staff involved in a wide variety of activities. Students have been involved in a numerous sporting events; both individual and team. Many students have enjoyed success, with some looking forward to competing in state finals after the holidays. I’m bound to miss something here but along with all the sporting events, this term has also seen students involved in year camps, Naplan, mid-course examinations, the Dance Festival, debating, Marine Studies excursions, forensic workshops, the Nambus visit, our anti-bullying launch, University visits and HSC seminars. Celebrating NAIDOCCHHS will be celebrating NAIDOC in Term 3 Week 2. We will be participating in a range of activities over the week. Parents and community with be invited to participate in some of the events. More details will be provided closer to the date. Friday 25th June • Last day of term 2 CHHS Cup AssemblyThe School Cup Assembly held this week was a highlight of the term with a large number of students being recognised for their outstanding efforts and excellence during term two. 2021 Zone Athletics CarnivalLast Thursday 10th June a busload of athletes hit the road to Scotts Head to compete in the Zone Athletics Carnival. To say it was freezing is an understatement, however the students didn't complain and got on with the task at hand. So much so that Camden Haven High won the point score for the day! Lower North Coast Dance FestivalCongratulations to the students and staff who contributed and performed at the Lower North Coast Dance Festival. The students represented the school with pride and upheld our motto of aiming for the highest. The Last DanceCongratulations goes to our HSC Distance Education Dance students who have just completed their practical trials in Dance. They have all done a fantastic job and have each demonstrated wonderful growth. Maddy Wins Gold State CHS ChampionshipsCHHS student Maddison Drewitt continues excelling on the hockey pitch with selection in the NSWCHS Open Girls hockey team. She will be competing in a Tri-series against the Independent and Catholic Combined High Schools in Newcastle on the 19th July 2021. CHHS's Driver Education ProgramCamden Haven High School's Driver Education Program has proven a hit with students and parents in its first two weeks of implementation on a Tuesday. It's great to see students taking advantage of the time efficient, cost effective basic car maintenance minded driving lessons available during school hours. The feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive and any students with their L Plates are encouraged to book a lesson next term and beyond. Luke the driver trainer uses modern methods and differentiates the lesson to meet client needs. Call the front office to book. 2021 Under 15's Soccer Country CupOn Thursday 17th June CHHS participated in the Regional Finals of the statewide U15's Country Cup. Four High Schools progressed from preliminary rounds which ranged from Taree to Grafton both public and catholic schools. CHHS Open Girls TennisOn Tuesday the 15th of June the open Girl’s tennis team played for the first time in the semi-finals of the schools state-wide Floris Conway Cup Tennis knockout competition against Grafton High School in Sawtell. The team consisted of Hayley Wills, Sophie Stewart, Ruby Stewart, and Hayley Smith. The Grafton girls were outstanding competitors and had been playing together for several years. Hayley’s and Sophie’s terrific effort led to a one game win in the doubles. With more experience the Camden Haven girls’ team will be difficult to beat in the future. I would like to thank the girls and their parents particularly for making this year’s tennis competition a success. CHHS Open Boys TennisOn Tuesday the 15th of June the open boy’s tennis team played in the semi-finals of the schools state-wide Stan Jones Trophy Tennis knockout competition against Coffs Harbour Senior College in Sawtell. The team consisted of Jaxson McHugh, Ashton Holster, Elwood Dollery, Laith Micklesson and Deegan Wallace. The Camden Haven Boys team showed enthusiasm and a great team spirit, but on this occasion were defeated by Coffs Harbour Senior College. Well done to Ashton, Elwood and Laith who managed to win one game each against strong competition in their singles match. I would like to thank the boys and their parents for making this year’s tennis competition a success. Year 12 Earth and Environmental ScienceShana Rowe, Nicole Hicks and Paul Hicks joined DE and F2F students on the Port Macquarie Geotrail as part of their Depth Study for Year 11 Earth and Environmental Studies. Claudia from Newcastle, Lily from Macksville and Julia from CHHS enjoyed the beautiful day. Thanks to Shana Rowe who did a great job organising this. Year 7 French Class Eating Crêpes7 Bass have realised that there is more to learning French than just being able to say “Bonjour”. Understanding the different traditions and the culture of France are as important as understanding the language. The appreciation of good food is a very important part of life in France. Paddock to PlateThe students have been very busy in our Agriculture Department. Imogen learnt to butcher and process the broiler chickens that were raised and grown in agriculture while other students enjoyed eating the chickens they raised. “Paddock to Plate” Year 7 Learning About MummificationYear 7 students learned about the mummification process by mummifying themselves. Well Being Lunch with the HatsEnding term 2 on a happy note listening to the vibes of the Hats!! Thank you to the CHHS Well Being team for organising lunch with a sensational barbecue and great entertainment. Attention current Year 10 students!
