Win front row seats for the Christmas Play!

Back by popular demand: third and fourth grade parents and families can purchase a chance to win six front row seats at the upcoming Christmas Play. Two winners will be chosen; each will get six front row seats.

The play is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 in the auditorium.

Chances to win front row seats are one ticket for $5 or five for $20. Check your child's classroom folder for more information or contact any member of the PTG.

Holiday Scrip schedule

Scrip orders placed on December 3 and 10 will be ready for holiday pick-up.  Keep these dates in mind when considering gift cards for Christmas.

Don't forget to register siblings for next year

Enrollment is under way for the 2015-2016 school year. If you have young children at home ready for preschool or Kindergarten next year, please submit an application form before the Christmas holiday. Classes are filling up and we would like to be able to secure your family a spot.

Save Box Tops for Education!

Thanks to everyone who has supported our Box Tops for Education campaign so far this year. With your help, we have raised more than $465!

For those families not familiar with the program, here is a short description of how it works.

  1. Find the Box Tops on hundreds of products.

  2. Clip the Box Top from each package.

  3. Send the Box Tops in to school in an envelope or plastic baggie labeled BOX TOPS to be placed in the plastic canister right outside of the main office.

  4. Our school then receives 10 cents for each Box Top.

Another batch will be submitted in mid-January. Please remember to check the expiration dates.

You can subscribe to their newsletter or find more information including participating products, recipes, and coupons at www.boxtops4education.com

Thanks again. Happy clipping!!

Save the date, and your gently used clothing

Sacred Heart PTG will be hosting a “Second Time Chic” Fashion Sale the weekend of March 6-8.

We are looking for volunteers, gently used or new clothing and auction items/donations.

Please contact Amy Volpe at jaisvolpe@gmail.com for details on how you can help!

Sacred Heart cookbooks make great gifts!

The Heart of Pittsburgh (volumes I and II), Sacred Heart Elementary’s award-winning cookbooks, make wonderful holiday gifts.

Each collection includes hundreds of kitchen-tested recipes submitted by families and friends of Sacred Heart Elementary School. The recipes are a celebration of Pittsburgh.

The Heart of Pittsburgh is available for purchase for one for $15 or two for $25 and will be sold after mass at Sacred Heart Parish 11/30 and 12/7. They can also be ordered using the Scrip order form.

Buy one for you and a friend!

Students visit Symphony's Tiny Tots program

Preschool four year olds joined the Sacred Heart kindergarten and first graders field trip as part of the Pittsburgh Symphony’s unique Tiny Tots program.

The Tiny Tots program exposes young children to the excitement of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Students watched as Fawzi Haimor led the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on a musical adventure throughout the great city of Vienna! We searched alongside Oskar for the perfect birthday gift for his mother. It was truly a fun morning.

Christmas Basketball Tournament

Sacred Heart hosts an annual Christmas basketball tournament from December 26 through December 30. Teams from all over the Diocese—32 in all—participate.

The Christmas tournament is the Sacred Heart Athletic Association’s biggest fundraiser of the year and benefits all families whose children participate in sports. The Christmas tournament helps raise money to buy new uniforms, basketballs, soccer equipment, and volleyball nets, and helps maintain the gym building.

We have wanted for several years to paint the inside of the gym, but have had insufficient funds to do so. We would love at the end of this year to be able to afford this project. As such, we ask all families with a child participating in the Sacred Heart’s sports program to volunteer at least one time during the Christmas tournament. For those of you with young children or children who do not participate in sports, we would love to have you as well. Those with children in the tournament, are asked to volunteer two times.

We need many volunteers to make the tournament a success. The concession stand is very popular and we serve a variety of homemade foods and baked goods, so we need people to staff the concession stand all day. We need people at the door taking money, people selling 50/50 raffle tickets, people working the clock, setting up, cleaning up, etc. We would love your help during this week if you are able to spare the time!

In early to mid December, a “Sign Up Genius” website will be established and circulated among school personnel. This website makes it easy to sign up for volunteer shifts.

Please watch for information about signing up and whatever time you are able to give, we greatly appreciate it! Thank you and Merry Christmas. Hope to see you in the gym Christmas week.

December food: Instant mashed potatoes

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect instant mashed potatoes to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

Each month, the Student Council members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
