TV news bulletin

Catch all the latest Council news on Gladstone Regional Council's TV news bulletin. The August bulletin was aired on Channel Seven on September 30. The bulletin is aired on the last Monday of each month between Seven's local news and weather segments. Residents can also watch the bulletin via the Council TV webpage.

Final five per cent rates discount looms

A five per cent discount is still on offer for those who pay their Gladstone Regional Council rates in full before close of business on October 22, 2013. The deadline is ratepayers' final opportunity this year to take advantage of Council's early payment discounts. Australia Day event grants available

Share in the 2014 Australia Day fun by applying to host an event in your community. Council's Community Events Grants carry a pool of more than $5000, enabling townships within the region to host an Australia Day event of their own. For more information visit Council's website or apply now.

Gardens celebrate 25th in style

There was something for everyone when Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens celebrated its 25th birthday from October 1 to 6. Celebratory activities included movie nights, children's entertainment, educational events, a visit by TV gardening personality Costa Georgiadis, and art and craft markets.

Regional dog owners have until October 31 to benefit from a 20 per cent discount on full pet registration payments.

In addition to the early payment reduction, Council also offers discounts for owners who have had their pets desexed and microchipped. Read more…

CouncillorConnect visits at a new time in October

The next round of regional CouncillorConnect visits on Thursday, October 31 will be held at 4pm.

Venues will be the Baffle Creek Sport and Recreation Shed, Builyan Community Hall, Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre and Raglan QCWA Hall.

Afternoon tea is open to all community members from 4pm to 4.45pm with 20-minute individual meetings with Councillors available from 4.45pm to 6.30pm.

Big Tipper Bucket to pour out the fun for youngsters

The Big Tipper Bucket, the centrepiece of the Gladstone Aquatic Centre's new Splash Zone water play park, was lifted into place on October 4 via a 16-tonne crane.

The bucket holds 500 litres of water which is dumped in a drenching wave on children below.

The $2.5 million Splash Zone facility, which opens on November 17, will also feature water jets and cannons, sprays and bubblers and a toddlers' pool. Read more…

Submit Australia Day Awards nominations

Three weeks remain to nominate residents for a 2014 Australia Day Award. Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Arts & Culture Award, Senior Sportsperson Award, Young Sportsperson Award, Sports Official Award, Community Event or Initiative Award and Community Volunteer Award. Beach camp to close for maintenance

The Workmans Beach camping and day use area at Agnes Water, including vehicle access, will be closed for maintenance from October 14 to November 2. The planned works will ensure the long-term viability of the camping area, protecting its natural surrounds, and preserving the area for use by future generations. Read more...

Early Warning Network Alert Service

Residents can register for a free Early Warning Network Alert Service to receive warnings via SMS to mobiles, email, voicemail to landlines and web alerts related to their registered locations. The initiative provides advanced warning of adverse weather or potential threats such as flash flooding, hail, damaging winds, cyclones and bushfires. Register via Council's website.

Did you know Council's Discovery Coast Community Health Service offers a range of primary and allied health care services? They have recently launched E-Health, an email health bulletin, providing nutrition, tips and advice on living a healthy and active lifestyle.
