The Pope's prayer intention for July

Pope Francis' universal prayer for the month of July is for the Integrity of Justice: 'That those who administer justice may work with integrity, and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word'.

Greg's Message

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
I hope that all families enjoyed their precious time together, and are feeling reinvigorated after the break.

Parent-teacher interviews
Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 24th July, beginning at 1:30pm. Students will be dismissed at 1pm on this day.

Working Bee
This Sunday from 2pm until 4pm we have a working bee.

Enrolments
We will be starting to organise class structures shortly. It would be appreciated if parents could advise me if their child will not be attending St. Anne’s next year (current Foundation to Year 5 students.)

School closure days
Please note that there will be no school for students on Monday 26th August and Tuesday 27th August. On these two days staff will be undertaking professional learning on Social and Emotional Learning and First Aid.

AFL Carnival
Some girls from years 4,5 and 6 will be participating in the North Balwyn District AFL lightning premiership on Monday, July 22nd at Bulleen Park. If you are free, please come along and support the girls.

Grandparents Day
Our famous Grandparents Day will be held on Friday 26th July. Once again a magnificent “spread” will be provided after 10am mass. This annual occurrence is always held on this date as we acknowledge the feast day of St. Anne and St. Joachim - Jesus’ grandparents.

Parish News

School Building Fund

Dear School families,

Recently the Parish completed the review and renewal of St Anne and St Bede's Stewardship Program. It was an opportunity for all Parishioners and School Families to reflect on how they can be further involved in the life of our Parish Community through voluntary participation in Ministry and financial support.

The Program now is different to previous years as it does not include a component that goes towards the school building fund. The school building fund enables both St Anne and St Bede's schools to make improvements to the school buildings through renovations, upkeep and repayment of building loans. This component has always been fully tax deductable.

You are invited, if you so wish, to make a contribution to the school building fund which is fully tax deductable. Upon receipt of donation you will receive a tax receipt for your tax returns.

Please fill out your details below and put in School Building Fund Envelope, which are available at the School Office.

I thank you for your continued support of the Parish and Catholic Primary Education St Anne's and St Bede's.

Yours sincerely
Fr John Salvano

Religious Education

For parents at the school who have babies or know of someone that has a baby in their family, and they have grown out of their baby clothes, or nappies or bibs, next term the Faith and Social Justice Group are doing a collection for the St Kilda Mums.

What this means is that ANYTHING  that is listed on the list on display in the Multi Purpose Hall, we can give as a donation to them. We will leave this long list in the foyer for you to have a look at. Just remember, if it has a  Green Tick-they will take it! Red cross-they can’t take it! Or, you can jump
on line to see what these goods are. There are also goods that have a star next to them-just click on the star, and it will tell you the exact requirements needed for those goods eg: needs to adhere strictly to Australian Safety Standards.
We thought with school holidays coming up, if you’re not going away, this is a good time to have an early ‘spring clean’!

Year 5/6 Hospitality Mass

This Sunday 21st July we have the Year 5/6 Hospitality Mass at 10.30am.

We would appreciate it if each family could please bring along a plate for morning tea.

If you can help with set up, serving or  clean up in the Multi-purpose hall please let your Year 5/6 Class Rep know.

Grandparents Day 2019

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – FRIDAY 26TH JULY

Grandparents’ Day this year will be celebrated on Friday 26th July. It is a wonderful day on the St Anne's calendar, celebrating the beautiful bond between our students and their Grandparents, culminating in the famous Morning Tea!

All Grandparents and Special Persons in your child's life are invited to join us!

The day will run as follows:

  • 8am – 9am – Food drop-off and plate preparation
  • 9am - 10am - Grandparents/Special Person Classroom and Library visit, with the opportunity to purchase a book to donate to the school library. This will include a dedication placed in the book on behalf of the Grandparent/special person. Your child will have the first opportunity to borrow the book from the library once the books are ready.
  • 10am - 11am - Mass is celebrated in the church with all Grandparents/special person and Students.
  • 11am - 12pm - Morning Tea is served for the Grandparents/special person in the Multi-Purpose Hall.  The library and classrooms will continue to be open during this time if anyone would like to visit.

We ask that each family supply one plate for the morning tea. This year we request the following:

  • Surname A-D: Fruit Plate
  • Surname F-K: Savoury Plate (eg sausage rolls, party pies, zucchini slice, mini quiche, mini pizzas)
  • Surname L-P: Sweet Plate (slices, cakes)
  • Surname R-W: Sandwich Plate (eg egg, chicken, tuna, cheese & ham, tomato & cheese etc)

If you are gluten free or vegetarian please consider sending along a gluten-free or vegetarian option.

I’m sure many of you have a favourite “go-to” recipe that you like to make, so please feel free to use your preference, but if you are looking for ideas here is a link that you may find helpful. http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/collections/morning-afternoon-tea-recipes

All food is to be delivered to the hall in disposable containers / plates between 8am-9am on the day. It would be super helpful if all sandwiches, slices, cakes etc were pre-sliced when dropped off.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – VOLUNTEER REQUEST

Those that have attended in previous years will know that Grandparents Day is an exciting day for all families, but it is also a very busy day.

This is a call-out for volunteers to assist with the set-up of the MPH on the afternoon prior (Thursday 25th July from 2:30pm) as well as for assistance on the day with the library book sale, food set-up, serving of tea & coffee, clean up and laundering tablecloths.

Given that this is an event that covers all year levels throughout the school, it is a wonderful opportunity to become involved and get to know other families within the school community. If you can assist, even if it is for only part of the day please sign up on volunteersignup.org/PJ9YY

Any questions, please contact:

Community News

St Anne’s Basketball Club is looking for Year 1 students keen to participate in our Ball Skills program during Term 3 of 2019.

We are a family based club and have 17 teams comprised of mainly current and former St Anne’s students playing in the Hawthorn Basketball Association competition, ranging in age groups from Under 9’s to U21’s.  Games are played on Saturdays at venues throughout Boroondara.

The Ball Skills sessions will run for 8 weeks during Term 3.  The aim of the sessions is for the children to be ready to commence playing in a team in the 2019/2020 Summer Season for SABC which starts in Term 4.  We will run separate sessions for boys and girls.  At this stage it is planned for the sessions for the boys to be on Friday after school from 4.30 to 5.15 at Kew East Primary School, and the sessions for the girls to be on Thursday after school from 5pm to 5.45 at Boroondara Sports Centre.

The sessions will commence in week 2 of Term 3 with the first session for the girls being on Thursday 25th July and for the boys on Friday 26th July. The final sessions will be held on 12th and 13th September.

A small fee will be charged ($90) for the ball skills sessions, which will then be deducted when registration fees are paid for the first time in registering your child to play in a SABC team.

Please register your interest by emailing secretary@stannesbc.com.au or by speaking to Sarah Lethlean (Secretary of SABC) on 0438 364 709, Tom Lynch (Father of Joshua) on 0418 813 773, or Susan Whyte (Mother of Grace) on 0400 105 742.

Dinner Dance Committee

St Anne’s Dinner Dance 2019 Annual Fundraiser

“There’s not a word yet for old friends we've just met”.

Thanks to you all, our Annual Dinner Dance was a huge success!
The main fund-raising goal for 2019 was to raise the much-needed funds to resurface the sports courts and with the amazing generosity and support of our school community and beyond - we did this.

We danced the night away, enjoyed a very entertaining MC, thanks to Michael Cleland and had lots of opportunities to support the event whilst meeting new families and most of all having lots of fun.
It was so pleasing to see past parents that supported the event, school parents, parent’s friends, Teachers and Fr Toan.

We would like for you to continue to support our event supporters as without their assistance this result could not have been achieved. So please ensure that you continue a long lasting partnership with them.

The Dinner Dance Committee would also like to acknowledge the support of the P&F, in particular Rebecca (Bec), Lisa, Kathleen and Richard. We would also like to thank our wonderful teachers at St Anne’s in particular Netitia, Julie, Tara, Clare & Greg for all of their support, and lastly we would like to thank the wonderful St Anne’s school community we were all so proud to be involved in the success of this event.
