Agri-ProFocus Newsletter Summer 2014

Dear readers, dear colleagues,

Summer has started in the Netherlands. We are going on holidays and recharging for the second half of the year, because some exciting activities are coming up! In september we will organise an expert meeting on sustainable agriculture, with as leading question: How can agro-ecology and other approaches support farmers to feed the world sustainably by 2030?

One other point I would like to highlight is the development of our new online platform. As you may know, Agri-ProFocus maintains similar platforms in numerous countries and on several themes. Although all the separate websites make for a wonderful community, we would love to see more cross-fertilization between the countries and easier access to important themes, no matter what country you’re from. Therefore we are going to build one system, in which you will have easy access to all the information, market offers, discussions and other posts, to which you can subscribe based on your interests. More info will follow soon!

But first take your time to read about our recent activities in this newsletter. Enjoy your holidays!

Kind regards,

Hedwig Bruggeman
Managing Director Agri-ProFcus

The benefits of satellite data for agriculture and food security

Increasing the agricultural sector output in 15 countries by providing food producers with relevant information through satellite data; that’s the aim of the Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) Facility. In the framework of the food security policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands is initiating this programme. To prepare for this call, The Netherlands Space Office (NSO) has asked Agri-ProFocus for support in undertaking a set of matchmaking activities. These activities support the process of constructing and organising sustainable partnerships with stakeholders from the countries.
