Countdown to spring has begun for all of us at the preschool.  Baseball, birds, rainbows, rain…we are ready for springtime.  However, we have stayed busy and learned a lot this winter.

Our Explorers learned all about hibernation and bears, explored the five senses with hands-on experiments, set up lemonade stands to practice recognizing the different coins, and we read different stories on how to be super friends.  Our Climbers celebrated our wonderful dads with “Donuts for Dad” this winter.  Thanks to Gurnee Donuts for donating five dozen donut holes to this event.  Please be sure to support our generous sponsor.  Our Climbers also learned different ways to be a healthy kid.

Our Wednesday Lunch Bunch program has been a success.  In January the students participated in different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) building activities.  Our February Wednesdays were filled with cooking.  We are now budding artists learning about Wassily Kandinsky, Monet, and Da Vinci and recreating some of their famous paintings.  The children have adjusted well to a longer school day and will be ready for Kindergarten.

Registration is now open for the 2020-2021 school year.  We would love to have new families enroll in our Explorers or Climbers classes.  Our Explorers class will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00-1:00 starting in the fall.  Our Climbers class will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-11:30.  Feel free to reach out to us at the preschool or check us out on the website.  We would be happy to answer any questions you have about our programs.

Our next Open House is Thursday, March 5th from 5:30-7:00.

We had our very first wine tasting fundraiser at the end of January.  Mrs. Osborne did an amazing job organizing this event, and we appreciate Wine Knows in Grayslake for hosting this event.  This fundraiser brought in over $900 for the preschool.  We have already been able to purchase several new items for the classroom.

Thank you also to all the local businesses/people that donated an item to be
raffled off during the evening.

One of these events, Mother Nature is going to give us a break.  Even with the largest snow flakes of the season, we still pulled out a very successful event.  We served 77 dinners with the help of our volunteers.

The biggest shout out goes to Adam at Jimano's of Gurnee!! Adam helped us with the spaghetti, meatballs, and garlic bread. Everyone was raving about the food!  Thank you to the Grandwood Park Park District for the use of the Community Center,  to Saluto's for donating their legendary salad dressing, and thank you to the Lake County Rugby team who was out in full support of our event.  And a final thank you to all the volunteers and bakers.  Without all these great people we would not be able to put on these events for the neighborhood!!  We look forward to seeing you all at Fish Fry on March 13th.

Are you planning a graduation party? Baby or Bridal Shower?

Why not have it at the Community Center?!?

The community extends condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Nancy Carlson and husband Steve Carlson. Nancy's mother, Diane Heslop died on January 30th. Diane Heslop was an artist, and enjoyed painting oil portraits. She graduated at the age of 77 with a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Western Illinois University, and went on to teach at Spoon River College in Central Illinois. Diane was 91 years old at the time of her death and was a resident of Winchester House in Libertyville.

Nancy Carlson is the President of the Grandwood Park Park District and Steve Carlson is a long time Lake County Board member. Nancy and Steve have lived in Grandwood Park for over 20 years. Our sympathies to the Carlson Family.
