Men Have "Worrying Low Awareness" of Modifiable Risk Factors for ED
Men with ischemic heart disease have low awareness of modifiable risk factors for erectile dysfunction (ED), according to a recent study in the International Journal of Impotence Research.
ED and ischemic heart disease share many risk factors, including smoking and obesity.
For their study, a group of Polish researchers surveyed 502 men with a mean age of 62. All of the men were undergoing cardiac rehabilitation for ischemic heart disease.
Men were asked about six specific risk factors: diabetes, hypertension, smoking, overweight and obesity, hyperlipidemia, and sedentary lifestyle.
Only 6% of the men could name all of the risk factors. Almost 38% could not identify any.
Increasing patient awareness is "essential," the authors wrote, as men can make changes to improve their erections.
