Notes from the Office

Parish Fish Fry
Join friends and families from all around the city at the Parish Fish Fry, which takes place Fridays during lent (except for Good Friday) from 5:00-7:30 pm in the school cafeteria.  Phone orders begin at 4:00 pm by calling 412-361-3131. Baked or fried fish sandwiches ($7.50) or dinners ($10.00) are available. Come hungry and share in this traditional Lenten meal.

Summer Camp
Students entering grades Kindergarten through grade two are invited to participate in our Creative Kids Camp. The camp offers a fun and exciting intro to summer. The theme is “Happy Holidays”. Each week the campers imagine their way through many of our favorite holiday celebrations using song, books and activities.  The camp takes place at the school for one or two week sessions, June 12-16 and June 19-23, from 9:00-3:00.  Cost is $200 per week. Come make new friends and have fun with old friends.  Space is limited, so register soon.

FACTS 2017-2018 Tuition Assistance Forms
If you are interested in applying for financial aid, the on-line application is available on the home page of the school website. There you can also find instructions for submitting required documentation, and the Pastor Signature Form for Catholic applicants. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2017.  One form per family, even if children attend multiple schools.  You must submit the FACTS form in order to be considered for any other form of aid.

Parent Lunch Program
If you are able and willing to come in for an additional lunch duty day before the end of the school year, email jrodgers@sacredheartpgh.org. The required six times per family is apparently not adequate for scheduling for the year. As the number of parents who choose to pay increases, the available parent pool decreases. Lunch and recess are highlights in your child’s day, and we need your support to provide the hands-on assistance to keep the school day running safely and smoothly.

Tuition and Other fees
The last SMART tuition payment is due in April.  An accounting of any outstanding school fees, such as Afterschool, Parent Lunch, Band or Library will be sent home in May.  Please bring your accounts up to date.

Kennywood Day
Plan ahead to spend May 19th at Kennywood Park with your friends.  School dismisses at 11:30, just in time to hit the rides. Stay tuned for ticket information.

One sided-scrap paper is always needed at the school.  Drop-off is accepted at the office.  Thank you!

Children's Liturgy of the Word

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place on Sunday, April 23rd during the 9:30 a.m. Mass for children in grades K - 4. Children are dismissed to the rectory library to listen to the Word of God with the daily readings on an age appropriate level. If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Smoller at sacredheartparishreled@gmail.com.

Family Rosary

Pope Francis has asked us to celebrate as a community a year dedicated to mercy. This Holy Year of Mercy is a time to help us rediscover the Church’s mission to bear witness to God’s love and the Gospel message.

We learn of divine mercy through Jesus’ passion, death, Resurrection and Ascension. In order to assist families to always be credible witnesses to mercy, professing it and living it daily, families are encouraged to come together to pray the rosary in church once a month prior to 9:30 a.m. Mass. Recitation begins at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, April 23rd.

PTG Corner

On March 17, the PTG held a Kids Night Out for 5th grade at Assemble Pittsburgh. The students who attended made a Sci-Fi adventure using green screens and stop motion GIFs. We hope this event becomes a new SHES tradition.

Plans are coming together for the CASH BASH on May 12 from 6:30-10:00 p.m. at the Teamsters Local 249 in Lawrenceville. Thank you to the homeroom parents and all of YOU for helping us with the basket raffles. We will be sending ticket ordering information home with your children soon – please look for it in their folders. Also, we are looking for volunteers to help with some logistics surrounding the Cash Bash. If you can help out, please contact Jane Cavanaugh at janec123@yahoo.com.

In addition, mark your calendars for the following events:

  • May 5th - Catholic Schools Night at PNC Park where 4th, 5th and 6th graders will sing the National Anthem prior to the Pirates game

Finally, please join us at the next PTG meeting on Tuesday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m.  All are welcome to attend the monthly meeting and we are always looking for ideas and volunteers.  We can't make it happen without your help! Contact Jane Cavanaugh at janec123@yahoo.com with any questions/suggestions.
