Message from the Registrar-General

Tēnā koe – hello.

After hearing about it through this newsletter, shortly you will see candidates turn up at their ceremony with their emailed invitation, as we launch our new ceremonies management system.

We are also taking advantage of social media to encourage those applying for NZ Citizenship by Grant to apply online. Currently this is open to single adult customers and will be expanded to groups of adults, children and people who are eligible for a grant of citizenship under the Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982. We would welcome you sharing our posts on your Facebook page.

Invitation by email goes live in March

You will soon start to see candidates arrive at ceremonies with their invitation in the form of an email. This is scheduled for release in March. Candidates will still be posted their invitation depending on their preference.

Here's the proposed format and if you have any questions please email vaughan.millar@dia.govt.nz.

Social media campaign

Our latest social media post for Citizenship By Grant has been posted on DIA’s Facebook page.

The purpose of these posts are to encourage customers planning to apply for their Citizenship by Grant to shift from paper to online.

We are happy for you to share, like or comment on this post if you would like to. Please be mindful of SSC's Principles for interaction with social media.

Online applications awaiting Ministerial approval or approved as of 27 January

Latest information is below for online applications due to be scheduled for ceremonies. These are in addition to our customers who applied by paper.

You should expect to see a small jump in numbers of people awaiting a ceremony when our new ceremonies system launches, as both online and paper customers will be managed in the new system.

We will continue to update you on these numbers each month, to help you plan for ceremonies in your area. The next update will be in March.

This information is based on the town/city provided in the residential address of the customer. At this stage we are unable to provide this information based on the local authority.

Overseas websites pretending to be an online application

We have noticed that there are overseas websites which pretend to be an online application for NZ citizenship, and charge customers extra to provide them with a printed form with their details on it that the customer needs to post to DIA.

Please take care not to link to these sites, and email vaughan.millar@dia.govt.nz if you see one so we can advise search engines.

Remember for government sites look for the .govt.nz at the end of the name, in this case http://citizenship.govt.nz.
