Huge drop in men’s sperm levels

Huge drop in men’s sperm levels confirmed by new study – Chris Barratt comments

Sperm count in men from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand declined by 50-60% between 1973 and 2011, according to a new study from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Surprisingly, the study, which analysed data on the sperm counts of 42,935 men, found no decline in sperm counts in men from Asia, Africa and South America, although there was limited data from these areas. Read Professor Chris Barratt's article in the Conversation.

#MenDoCare – Raising awareness for males in the care professions (Sat 2nd Sep)

Male Nursing student

Staff and students from the School Nursing and Health Sciences will be raising awareness about males in care professions. Currently, less than 10% of nursing students and applicants to nursing courses are men. This shortage of men applying to nursing means that we are losing out on many talented future nurses. The role of the nurse has changed dramatically in the last few decades and offers fantastic opportunities in clinical, research, education and management roles.

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences want to get out there and speak to men who may not have considered nursing as a rewarding and dynamic profession. If you know anyone who may be interested, spread the word and pop down and to the Overgate between 11am and 1pm to see them!

You can quiz the team about a career in nursing and get all of the information you need. Find out more.

The title of this exhibition comes from Marikki Hakola piece The Time is Right For… (1984). The show features works from the 1970s & 1980s by several European women artists that engage with the concept of the artist as a promoter of dialogue, openness, cultural exchange and peace.  The exhibition is a collaboration between Summerhall and EWVA (European Women’s Video Art in the 1970s and 1980s), an AHRC funded research project, based at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee (Scotland). The exhibition runs to 24 September.
