The Our Lady of Grace School Vision is that we will empower all children through faith, knowledge and wisdom to live fulfilling lives in an ever changing world. At the core of our Vision is our Catholic faith. If we are truly a Christ centred, child focused school then we must strive to seek God in the everyday. This is part of the tradition or Charism of Our Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and strongly influences the Evangelisation plan currently being developed by a group of parents and staff. We are always keen to expand the parent representation on this group so please consider being a part of this important group. Please let Mrs Wandek or Mrs Ryan, admin@olg.wa.edu.au know if you are interested. Part of our development of our Strategic Plan 2020-2023 and our Vision for Learning was to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in a full range of learning opportunities. This week we saw our Cross Country Team participate successfully in the Inter-school Cross Country Carnival at Perry Lakes. The Boys Team came first and overall we placed second in the competition. Thank you Mr Brown for your support of the Cross Country squad. Our Arts program provides two major opportunities for students this term with participation in The Catholic Education Performing Arts Festival and the Angelico Arts Competition for Visual Arts. You will notice some gaps on our art display in Reception these wonderfully creative pieces have been entered into the Angelico Competition and we wish all the artists the best of luck. Thank you Mrs Deed for all your work on our Arts program. Head Boy and Head Girl, Oskar Tindall and Olivia Todd, Mrs Goldie and I attended the CEWA Performing Arts opening Mass last week. This incredible event over 6 weeks provides a vast array of opportunities for performance in music, drama, dance, Scripture reading and more. Congratulations to all of our participating students who are joining over 21,000 other students from Catholic schools all over WA in this festival. Thank you to Mrs Goldie for all your work in our Arts program. Our Tournament of Mind Teams and Robocup Teams are busy training and preparing for their opportunity to be involved in competitions that stretch and challenge thinking. Thank you to Mrs Hince, Mrs Hardwicke, Mrs Elliott, Mrs Fenlon for their support of TOMS and Robocup. The learning and teaching continues to be a focus for our staff professional conversations and whole school improvement plans. One way we are expanding our learning is through the development of an IT Strategy for implementation in 2020. Please come along to our Parent Information Evening next Wednesday, 7th August in the MPA to hear about the future implemenetation in our school. The IT initiative will be presented by the team of teachers, external consultants and parents who have shaped this strategy. We will discuss the strategy, the change management process, security and safety concerns as well as the implications for teachers, parents and our at the centre of this work, our students. We begin our parent and student information sessions on the 7th August. Our Parents & Friends Association has undertaken a commitment to parent information workshops. Next week on 8th August a workshop on Resiliency will be available to all parents of our school. We are a busy school, with a range of activities and opportunities for our community. I look forward to seeing you at these events and learning your thoughts on how we strive to be a Christ centred, child focused school. God bless Gabrielle Doyle This week's assembly will be presented by students in 3B. Library Roster Parking - Pick up & Drop Off When we had an issue that affected the safety of our children earlier this year we sat down with the children and created a solution. It wasn't perfect and we revisit it regularly to refine how we keep safe. We currently have an issue that affects not only the safety of our children but also the immediate school neighbours and wider community. Parents and families who are dropping off and picking up children from school are choosing to park outside of the significant number of parking bays around the school. The safety issues are: . queue jumping at Kiss and Drop by parking in Church and disabled parking; . driving into carparks and Kiss and Drop at speed I think the solution lies with responsible drivers - park in the bays. However, I have happy to discuss any other solution you can come up with. Cake Stall: The Kindy classes will be holding a cake stall in the Multi-Purpose Area on Friday 2 August. Please come along and support their fundraiser. A reminder to the Kindy parents who will be baking for the cake stall that OLG has a Nut Free policy. His prize was a trip to represent Australia at KAR International Dance Competition in Las Vegas during the recent school holidays. Zoe (2G), his younger sister, was also invited to go along and compete. Zoe did fantastically well, receiving 3 first places and a fourth place in her Jazz, acrobats and hip hop solos, along with a first place for a contemporary group dance, which she danced in with 8 other girls from around Australia. Mitchell placed first in his hip hop solo and in the overall competition won the title of “Mr Dance America” in the primary division!
