Senior Day Off, Oct. 21

The 12th Grade faculty team, in conjunction with the administration, has decided that all seniors will have the day off from school on Wednesday, Oct. 21. We know that you are diligently working, training, reading, writing, and going to many zoom calls and meetings. We want you to have a day when you can get caught up, finish up essays, finalize that application, sleep in, go for a long walk, and have a day with a little less busyness.

That evening is also the final college app work party before early application deadlines. We hope you can use this day to knock off as much as you can from your college lists and come back to school with mental space a little clearer and energized. You do not need to go to Community Meeting or Advisory, but you are welcome to join in anywhere, especially affinity groups.

Applications for admission to the 2021-22 school year are now live! For current families and faculty members with a child applying to 6th grade, please note Early Sibling & Faculty Child (ESFC) applications are due Oct. 22. Please fill out the ESFC interest form to be included in mailings about this process.

For more information about the ESFC application timeline and the admission process for siblings and faculty children applying to grades 7 and above, please click here, or contact our Admissions Office. We are excited to meet and work with you this fall!

Farm and Garden Volunteer Day, Oct. 24

Craving some physically distanced outdoor time and being a part of the process of growing food and building community? Interested in learning how to be a volunteer to care for the Farm/Garden? Come join for the first Farm/Garden volunteer day of the year on Oct. 24, 10:00 am-2:00 pm!

It’s been many months since we’ve had parents and students in the Farm/Garden and we are excited to invite you back! Our time together will include harvesting and pulling out summer crops, planting cover crops and winter crops, chopping compost, and caring for the chickens. We will have staggered start times and maintain physical distance. Please RSVP here no later than Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Environmental Sustainability Speaker Series, Oct. 28

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 7:00-8:00 pm, join us for a conversation with Adrienne Hampton, the climate policy and engagement manager for the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition. We will discuss climate justice, local Seattle climate action, and the intersection of science, policy, and justice. The goal of the Environmental Sustainability Speaker Series is to convene engaging, informal, community conversations with rockstar people working on environmental and related issues from a variety of sectors and approaches.

Students, parents/guardians, faculty, alumni, and friends of the school are invited and encouraged to join. (Thanks to all the folks who joined last month! It was wonderful to see you all!) Note: Each session of the speaker series is off-the-record, so the conversations are not recorded.

Zoom link here.

Outdoor Program Fall Bingo Challenge, Oct. 21-27

Happy fall everyone! From Wednesday, Oct. 21 until Tuesday, Oct. 27,  Northwest School students will be challenged to complete the Outdoor Program Fall Bingo Challenge. Students will have seven days to complete nine outdoor challenges. Be on the lookout for details next week and keep on getting outside.

Looking ahead, the Outdoor Program is currently reviewing the viability and safety of resuming in-person Outdoor Program Experiences. We are cautiously optimistic about these possibilities and we will be keeping you informed when there are updates.

House Specialty Program Information and Menu

Thank you to our West Seattle families for their flexibility at the Westwood Village pickup location. We are hoping that construction in the area will be completed soon. In the interim, we will continue to try to provide real-time updates about where the bus is parked via email and the @nws.kitchen Instagram account. The bus drivers will also do their best to park in an easily visible spot, even if the exact location may change slightly from week to week until construction and roadwork are complete.

Want to see what’s coming your way next week? Check out the menu here.

Lunchtime Dough & Joe a Success

Dough & Joe, our yearly Annual Fund event, was a success! Thanks to all the parents and guardians who ventured out on a lovely autumn day to make it so. It was great to see you connect with each other (and faculty) for some physically-distant conversations, enjoying a cup of coffee and a treat while supporting the school. Thanks also to those of you who donated earlier. Questions about Uniquely Northwest? Please contact Julie Lombardo (206-816-6208) in the Development Office.
