Update: NZIST working groups confirmed

Kia ora koutou

Last month I shared that the NZ Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST) Establishment Unit was seeking nominations from ITPs for seven working groups which will help to shape the new national institute.

I can now share the good news that three of our Unitec nominees have been selected to join working groups for key projects. They are:

International education – David Glover, Executive Director Partnerships and Student Recruitment
Student journey map – Annette Pitovao, Director Student Success
Employer and community engagement model – Heather Stonyer, Director Industry Partnerships

NZIST received more than 500 nominations for the 76 spots available, spread over seven working groups. It appears they have sought a level of parity between institutes with similar numbers sourced from each. You can read the NZIST Establishment Board’s announcement, plus view the group chairs here.

The working groups are each expected to have six meetings over the next six months and will hold an advisory role for the incoming NZIST Council. It is not yet clear what format each meeting will take or whether discussions will be considered confidential. As always, we will share as much information as we are able.

We will also be investigating the best ways for interested Unitec staff to provide input. This process may differ from what was outlined last month as the NZIST Establishment Unit has committed to creating further opportunities to engage and feed into the working groups, but the final format is not yet confirmed.

These working groups will form the ‘Mobilising the New World’ workstream, which is one of ten workstreams initiated by the Education Minister to get NZIST up and running by 1 April 2020. There is a huge amount of work still to be done and we are pleased that Unitec and the other ITPs are being given a strong voice in shaping the new entity.
