After the success of last year's NHS 70th celebrations, we are holding another BigTea on 4 July to raise awareness of the vital work we do to support NHS services in Queen Square. NHS BigTea in Queen Square Thursday 4 July 2019, 2-4pm The next generationWe are delighted to announce that we are looking to recruit a team of Young Ambassadors who will be an integral part of the charity, helping to raise awareness of our work and Queen Square. As a Young Ambassador, you will volunteer your time to support The National Brain Appeal and motivate other donors. As a Young Ambassador, you would support the charity in many ways, such as:
If you’re passionate about changing the future for the one in six of us affected by a neurological condition, and you want to join our two-year programme for young adults aged 18-35, then we want to hear from you! Exciting names for #ALIM19We've had a great response to our call for artists for A Letter in Mind: Making Light Work. Just a few of the big names that have agreed to take part include artists Olafur Eliasson, Mark Dion, David Shrigley, Adebanji Alade, Mark Entwistle, Ishbel Myerscough, Morag Myerscough, Luke Morgan, Gill Rocca, Estelle Thompson, Chantal Joffe and Polly Dunbar. Architects Amin Taha, Laurie Chetwood and Andrew Grant have signed up, as have actors Kevin Eldon, Jo Brand, Stephen Campbell Moore and James Fleet. Musicians James Johnson and Terry Hall are also getting creative for us. We're very excited to see all the fantastic artwork envelopes over the coming weeks and on sale in September! The deadline has now been extended until 26 July, so there's a bit of extra time to sign up and get your piece in! Please help us to spread the word by asking any creative friends and family to take part. All proceeds from the sales of the anonymous artworks go to support projects at Queen Square. Our newest HeadlinerWe are thrilled to announce that we have a new headliner – novelist Harriet Lane. Her bestseller Alys, Always was shortlisted for the Writers’ Guild Best Fiction Book Award. She has also written for the New York Times, the Observer, the Guardian and Vogue. Harriet was delighted to join our team of Headliners as she has a close connection to The National Hospital. She explains, "Since being diagnosed with a rare neurological condition in 2008, I’ve been a frequent visitor to Queen Square (attending the daycare unit regularly for sight-saving IVIg). When things are going wrong, this is where I want to be. I’m full of admiration for the work done at The National Hospital." Thank you Harriet – we're looking forward to having you on board! We won!In our last e-letter we asked you to vote for us in the Ecclesiastical Society 'Movement for Good' awards. And thanks to you, we ended up winning £1,000! This money will go to our Aphasia Appeal. We are raising £600,000 to help support the first two years of a Europe-first high-dose aphasia programme, here in Queen Square.
