It's our 35th birthday! This week back in August 1984, the charity was established to support vital projects in Queen Square. Thirty-five years on and The National Brain Appeal is growing steadily every year – meaning we are able to fund even more at The National Hospital and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. We are so fortunate to have such a stalwart army of supporters like you, and we'd love you to join in the celebrations! Whether you’re a keen runner, cyclist, walker or you’re a fan of
gaming, it would be wonderful if you could to take part in one of our “35” themed challenges. Why not try running 35 miles, cycling 35 miles or walking 35,000 steps? If sport isn’t your
thing, you could take part in our 35-hour gaming challenge or even consider giving something up for 35 days – and getting sponsored for it! For ideas and inspiration, see our 35th Birthday Challenge. The charity has a wonderful group of 25 celebrity supporters called Headliners who help us raise awareness and often attend our events. To celebrate our special day some of them have kindly sent us a birthday message. You can watch these on our You Tube channel by clicking below, or look out for them on our social media feeds this week!

Royal Academy of Music fundraising recitalA rare chance to hear the award-winning pianist Colin Stone at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Colin is a former patient at The National Hospital as well as being a renowned
music professor at the Royal Academy, where he will be performing a
concert at Duke's Hall on Sunday 20 October in aid of The National Brain Appeal.
Colin enjoys a distinguished career as a solo pianist and as a member of the
London Mozart Trio and the LMT Chamber Ensemble. He has made a number of recordings and his latest CD will be available at the concert to buy, and is also available on our online shop.
This will be a unique event given Colin's close relationship with the hospital. He was successfully treated at Queen Square for a potentially life and career-threatening
spinal tumour in 1992, and then a pituitary
tumour three years ago. At the event, there will be a presentation of the St Martin's Lifetime Achievement Award to footballing legend Tony Adams MBE, Lynne Ramsay and Ingrid Betancourt, for their services to charity.
Tickets cost £25 and are available below.
Remember A Charity
in Your Will WeekThis year the campaign gets a vintage makeover and draws on popular 70s game shows to bust certain ‘myths’ about leaving gifts in your Will.
Ex-Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman is the face of the campaign and recently some of our charity team met up
with him to chat about legacy promotion (pictured above with chief exec, Theresa and senior fundraising officer, Alexis). During Remember A Charity week, Len will be talking about the realities of leaving a gift in your Will.
The truth is, many charities wouldn't exist if it weren’t for legacies. However there are many myths – from thinking the process is complicated, to believing only the rich and famous leave a legacy. The whole week aims to demystify and highlight the importance of these gifts for all charities. Watch out on our social media channels for more details!
In 2018 we spent £1.92m on charitable activities Read more about our finances. For more events, personal stories and how you can get involved, please visit our website.
