Click here ![]() January 2024Happy New Year Go Clubs!As we start a new year, a reminder of the resources and support available to you as a Go Clubs member, including but not limited to: Go Clubs website – containing lots of information, resources, factsheets and templates to help your club begin, grow and develop. Facebook – keep up to date with everything Go Clubs by joining our Facebook group. Funding opportunities – access to a number of Council grants, including Go Clubs Infrastructure Assistance Grant, Go Essentials and Community Partnerships. Club Development Officer – Council has a dedicated Club Development Officer to coordinate the Go Clubs Program, providing professional advice, support and assistance to clubs. ![]() Serving up successThe newly formed Henley Street Tennis Club was officially opened by Mayor Terry James and Councillor Cathy Zeiger on Saturday 9 December, following the upgrade of Lions Park at Earlville. Council has completed a $2.9 million upgrade to the park, including the construction of four new synthetic grass tennis courts and a 34-bay carpark. Grant alertThe Queensland Government has a couple of great grants open at the moment. Active Women and Girls Program – aims to boost sport and active recreation opportunities for women and girls in Queensland. Funding can be used across a range of focus areas, such as volunteer training, resources, equipment or creating more participation opportunities. Active Industry Project Fund Super Round – aims to increase participation opportunities and enhance athlete pathways for Queenslanders. Application for improvement worksUnder a tenure arrangement, Council’s consent must be obtained before making any improvements, additions, or alterations to Council owned facilities. An Improvement Works Application is required to be completed in order to get Council’s approval. This process can take up to four weeks so ensure you submit your request early! This is particularly important when applying for a grant as you will need approval prior to submitting. Not sure if your project needs approval? Ask Tony! ![]() ![]() Club of the yearWhat a night for Cairns MX Club at the 2023 Motorcycling Queensland Annual Awards Night. The club won Club of the Year, Volunteer of the Year (Club President, Tracey Green) and Youth Volunteer of the Year (Jaxx Willcox). An absolutely fantastic achievement and worthy recognition for the club. Strategic planningAll clubs should have a plan which guides the strategic direction of their club into the future. A strategic plan provides your club with a road map to help achieve your goals and overall vision. It sets out a series of priorities and measurable objectives for the immediate future and the strategies by which these goals will be achieved and resourced. Go Clubs has developed a factsheet and a strategic plan template to help your club with this process. ![]() ![]() NQ GamesCairns is set to host the largest multi-sport event in regional Australia from 3-6 May next year, with more than 3,000 participants across 30 sports expected to attend. Cairns Regional Council and the North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF) have partnered to deliver the games. PCYC Cairns received funding through the 2022/23 Go Clubs Infrastructure Grant to complete an LED lighting upgrade. This will enable the club to continue to provide quality programs and activities to the community. ![]() ![]() Cairns Model Aero Club received a grant through the 2022/23 Go Clubs Infrastructure Grant for the installation of cyclone rated shade shelters to their flying field. This has allowed the club to provide all-weather shade and rain protection for club activities.
