VC recipient to open pool

Victoria Cross recipient Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith will visit Cairns this weekend to open the redeveloped Tobruk Memorial Pool. Other links with Australia's military history can be seen at the complex.

New path a win for residents

The long-awaited Stoney Creek Road path has been completed, following a lengthy campaign by local residents to get a safe off-road pathway. Residents first brought their request to Council nearly a decade ago but steep terrain and a narrow roadway delayed the project. Engineers devised a solution that involved a raised concrete path cantilevered over a retaining wall. The two metre wide path extends 920 metres along Stoney Creek Road east from Red Bluff Crescent, joining an existing off-road path that links with Caravonica and continues to Peace Lutheran College. Fencing has been installed in sections where the embankment drops away dangerously. See full story
