ASUM Outreach is currently supporting an initiative from Mercy Hands which is the health care program of Water for Africa, an Australian Not-For-Profit organisation bringing hope to communities in Tanzania and Uganda.
The aim of the ultrasound project is to improve birth outcomes for mother and babies. As part of this effort, ASUM Outreach is supporting point-of-care ultrasound training for the three midwives volunteering in Tanzania to further support the aim of this project and enhance the training provided in Tanzania.
Mercy Hands has raised funds for a portable ultrasound system and now we are calling for help in training the midwives. With the current complication of COVID-19, we are calling for volunteers to support obstetric ultrasound training of the three midwives. The training will be based in Perth.
If you are an ASUM member and wish to submit an expression of interest please all the details including the form here

Lateral Ankle & Midfoot Inversion Injuries
AIU has teamed up with Dr. Colin Chong, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiologist, to bring you a series of specialty MSK ultrasound video tutorials.
Patients who ‘roll their ankles', often from inversion injuries, are a common MSK presentation. It can be a challenging area to scan. Midfoot conditions from inversion injuries are often not scanned and therefore under-diagnosed.
This series provides you with a logical, methodical, and time-efficient approach for assessing high ankle strains, lateral ankle strains and midfoot injuries, including a comprehensive 11-point protocol and real-world clinical cases and case-based discussion.
Scanning techniques are demonstrated with split screens of the image and transducer positioning from two camera angles. This recorded teaching can be replayed, reflected on, discussed, and replayed again – this is ideal for the learning process and more effective than a one-off lecture.
