The social security scams are getting bigger and more active than the IRS ones. All demographics are targeted but the elderly are the main targets. However, scammers are internationally active. These scammers are usually not living in your country. Whether you live in the United States, United Kingdom or Belgium, these scammers are everywhere speaking all languages. It would be imperative to always be alert when receiving a telephone call and NEVER give confidential information such as tax identification numbers, bank accounts, name, address, date of birth, etc. It is also important not to be bullied or harassed into giving any confidential data. Do not let these scammers scare you into submitting. Warn your friends and families as well. JUNE 17 FILING DEADLINE! June 17 filing deadline for those living abroad is coming soon. If you feel that you won't make this deadline, it's time to file an extension to file by October 15. If you need assistance in filing the extension, please contact us. Scams in the U.S.Internal Revenue Service - Scammers will call insisting they are the IRS insisting that a tax liability is past due and must be paid at that moment on the phone or the police will be knocking at the door by the next day. The IRS will never call demanding payment. The IRS will never call on the phone. The IRS sends out letters with warnings until they will either take the taxpayer to court or garnish assets. The caller may be based in Dunkirk, NY. FALSE! The social security number is NEVER suspended. There are other scams. Check the SSA page on scams here.
