Part Time Claims Manager – New Role at Law MutualThe Law Society is seeking a motivated part-time Claims Manager to be an integral part of the Law Mutual team. Federal Anti-Money Laundering LegislationThe Commonwealth Government has listed the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing and Other Legislation Amendment Bill as proposed for introduction before the end of 2019.
The Law Council of Australia has confirmed in consultations with the Department of Home Affairs that this Bill does not contain any provisions pertaining to the regulation of the legal profession. The Law Council will closely scrutinise the proposed legislation when it is published.

Criminal MattersThe Court and Tribunal Services Division of the Department of Justice has confirmed that the eCourts Portal – Criminal Matters, is now available. The Law Society had enquired with the Department of Justice after members had brought the issue to the Law Society's attention.
Important Information Regarding Exemption from
Participation in the Professional Standards Scheme
The Law Society’s new Professional Standards Scheme commenced on 1 July 2019. Ordinary and Life members of the Law Society who hold an Australian Practising Certificate are automatically members of the Professional Standards Scheme unless exempted by the Law Society from participation on application by the member.
If you do NOT wish to retain the benefits of participation in the Scheme, you MUST complete an Application for Exemption. Failure to provide a completed Application for Exemption will require you to: - implement the compliance requirements of the Professional Standards Act 1997 (WA); and
- pay the $50 fee
which the Law Society remits to the Professional Standards Council on your behalf.
Alternatively, if you wish to retain the benefits of the Scheme, please complete a Participant Information Form.

If you are able to provide any assistance, please email lawaccess@lawaccess.net.au. Family Law: an experienced mentor is sought by a regional lawyer needing occasional advice about the conduct of an interesting property case. Family Law: counsel’s opinion is needed to determine if final property orders adequately take into account subsequent developments. - Commercial law: an elderly man claims a financial company incorrectly made a payment to a third party.
