Volunteers Needed for Chicken Care

Are you interested in learning how to care for the Northwest School chickens? Or maybe you are eager to return to the chicken-care volunteering you’d been generously doing before the pandemic began. Either way, as we near Fall and Winter Breaks, we will need volunteers to collect eggs, change the water, refill the feed, and generally give the hens some love.

We will be hosting three chicken-care trainings. Please complete this form by Monday, Nov. 16, at 12:00 pm if you are interested in coming to one of the sessions.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2:45-3:15 pm
  • Friday, Nov. 20, 12:00-1:00 pm
  • Monday, Nov. 23, 12:00-1:00 pm

If you have volunteered to care for chickens previously and are eager to return, please sign-up for a volunteer shift here. Contact Director of Environmental Education and Sustainability Jenny Cooper with any questions.

Snoqualmie Valley Day Hike, Nov. 21

Join us for a day hike along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail near Carnation. This beautiful hike will include walking along the Cottonwood Loop in Tolt-MacDonald Park and along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. We will have scenic views of northwest forests and Snoqualmie Valley farmland. The hike will be between four and six miles in length, and most of it will follow an old railroad grade to accommodate physical distancing. All levels are welcome and encouraged to be a part of this day hike!

A few notes regarding this experience and COVID-19:

  • We will continue to monitor COVID-19 case numbers and risk factors in King County as the trip date nears. While we hope for the best, we also prioritize the health and safety of our students and faculty. With that in mind, we want to remind you that this trip may be cancelled if the risk of COVID-19 transmission becomes too high.
  • With the help of Sierra Maxwell, our Health Coordinator, we have drafted a set of Outdoor Program COVID-19 Guidelines. Part of the pre-trip meetings with students and faculty will be to review and set expectations for following these guidelines.
  • Students and families must provide their own transportation. If this creates a barrier to your student coming on the hike, please contact Nathan Franck.

Sign-up information can be found here.

If you have any questions, please contact Nathan

House Specialty Program Information and Menu

Next week is the last week of the House Specialty program for Trimester 1. We will suspend the House Specialty Program during the week of Fall Break. We will resume on Monday, Nov. 30.

Check out the menu here.

Yearbook Portrait/Class Photos

Your student may have noticed that the Picture Upload course's "Upload Your Yearbook Photo" assignment on their Canvas calendar is due soon.

Many students have already submitted their photos for the yearbook, but we still need a few more. If your student hasn't yet submitted a photo, please have them upload a portrait photo to appear in the yearbook by Nov. 15. If your student chooses to have a professional photo taken later, or if we are able to have photos taken by Yuen Lui, we can swap out photos later.

Students can check the assignment and see if they have already submitted their yearbook photo. Please note: The yearbook photo is not the same as the Padlet wall photo. Please contact Nathalie Hall with any questions.

6th-9th Grade Student/Parent/Guardian/Advisor Conference Info

The 6th-9th Grade Student/Parent/Guardian/Advisor conferences are on the horizon! A survey will be emailed to all families of 6th-9th grade students on Friday, Nov. 13. Please complete this survey as soon as possible to book the time for your Student/Parent/Guardian/Advisor conference.

Families of students in 10th-12th grade who wish to meet with their student's advisor should contact the advisor directly to schedule a conference time.
