Guide helps with landscape and revegetation plans

A NEW guide developed by Shire of Mundaring environmental officers will help residents with landscape and revegetation planning. Environment and Sustainability Co-ordinator Toni Burbidge said the Landscape and Revegetation Guidelines booklet was a great tool for both developers and residents.

“The booklet will be useful for people who are required to submit landscaping or revegetation plans as part of their development applications,” she said. Read more here.

Special Council Meeting - Tuesday 23 June

A SPECIAL Meeting of Council will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 23 June 2015 to adopt the Annual Budget, Corporate Business Plan and Long Term Financial Plan. This meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at the Shire’s Administration Building, 7000 Great Eastern Highway, Mundaring. The agenda for the meeting is available on the Shire website.

Mundaring Community Sculpture Park Redevelopment

WORK to redevelop Mundaring Community Sculpture Park is now underway. The first stage of the project involved the removal of a
number of trees, which were non-local natives, dead or unsuited to the area.

Some of the timber will be re-used within the park, for example for steps and natureplay equipment. Several mature trees will be planted near the playground to provide shade.

The second stage involves the removal of the current playground equipment to allow siteworks to begin. During construction, parts of the park will be fenced for safety reasons. For more information or to view draft plans of the project, click here.

Unrestricted burning period

1 June until 31 September
BURNING garden refuse is one option available to residents to reduce fuel loads at certain times of the year. Garden refuse may now be burnt at any time, however care must be exercised. Do not burn damp, wet or green material at any time as this will cause excessive smoke. Residents are asked to wait for five to 10 days after any rain to ensure the material is dry enough to burn properly. There are many alternatives to burning. Read more here.

Shire grant helps football club remember glory days

DARLINGTON Junior Football Club is excited to relive the past 50 years after being awarded the Shire’s Milestone Event Grant. Club member Rebecca DeRooy said the $2500 grant would be used to compile a short video presentation to be shown at a gala event on 29 August. Read more here.

Local Planning Scheme 4 - Amendment No 1

ON 9 December 2014, Council resolved to adopt Omnibus Amendment 1 to the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme No 4. Copies of Amendment 1 and the addendum are available to view via the link below. Comments should be received by no later than 21 July 2015. Read more here.

Nesting boxes help wildlife flourish

WILDLIFE in fire-affected areas of the Shire of Mundaring is being given a helping hand following the installation of dozens of nesting boxes. As part of the Shire’s environmental recovery plan, local expert Simon Cherriman constructed and installed the boxes of various sizes on Shire reserves in the affected area. Read more here.

Prepare your home for winter storms

SHIRE of Mundaring residents are encouraged to prepare their properties for the storm season ahead. Residents can be better prepared by checking their home’s roof and gutters, clearing gutters and downpipes, trimming trees near powelines and securing loose objects in the yard. Read more here.

Local riding group wins Celebration of Ability Award

RIDING for the Disabled Hills Group was awarded Shire of Mundaring’s annual Celebration of Ability Awardat a Council meeting on 12 May. Shire President Cr Helen Dullard said the Hills RDA riding program gave children and young people increased social confidence, contentment, higher self-esteem and increased physical wellness.
