Does Kisspeptin Help Trigger Sexual Arousal?

A hormone called kisspeptin appears to influence brain networks related to sexual arousal, scientists report.

More research is needed, they added, but eventually the hormone might help with the treatment of psychosexual and mood disorders.

Their study, published last October in JCI Insight, involved 29 healthy men who twice watched a series of images while inside an MRI scanner - once after an infusion of kisspeptin and once after a placebo infusion.

Some images were sexual, some were negative, and some were neutral.

After the kisspeptin infusion, brain areas linked to sexual arousal were activated, and the men had less sexual aversion.
