QiC award winners announced virtually

A Diabetes Specialist Nurse from Liverpool and the Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust were both top winners at a major diabetes awards which took place for the first time virtually.

Vicki Alabraba, who works for the Liverpool Diabetes Partnership, was the recipient of the Diabetes Professional of the Year trophy at the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes awards.

NHS confirms all pregnant women with type 1 diabetes to receive CGMs

All pregnant women with type 1 diabetes will now be offered continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), Professor Partha Kar has confirmed.

In January, the NHS pledged in the ten-year plan that it would ensure the technology would be made available to expectant women with the autoimmune condition by 2021.

Forxiga recommended for approval in the EU for heart failure

Official approval has been sought to make Forxiga (dapagliflozin) the first sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor available to treat people with chronic heart failure in Europe. 

The AstraZeneca drug has been recommended for an indication extension of its marketing authorisation in the European Union (EU).
