How to Order Wine Like a Sommelier

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you've been chosen to pick out the wine for a business dinner or, even more worrisome, a first date? How do you weed through the huge wine list and successfully manouver through the "wine presentation?"

There are some simple rules to follow. Assess the scene, then pick your style of wine. Size up the wine list to break it down a little more and make it easier for you to pick from. And, plan ahead for your next bottle of wine. Click here for more detailed information from Wine Folly. Pretty soon you'll be picking like a pro!

the refuge restaurant & lounge

This month's featured restaurant is The Refuge Restaurant & Lounge, located off Parkcenter Boulevard in Southeast Boise. The Refuge has become a local favorite, and every Wednesday they have 2-for-1 wine specials from 4-7pm. The Idaho Wine Commission is also proud to promote their  Idaho wine menu featuring Cinder and Coiled.

Warm weather is upon us and that means summer, Riesling and Viognier are in my future. I think there is nothing I love more than having friends over to our backyard for a nice, cold glass of white wine and a plate of cheese (of course). Also around the bend are lots of fun spring activities coming our way from countless spring releases, farmers markets, and we can't forget Savor Idaho coming up on June 9th. If you are planning to attend get your tickets soon because we are are almost halfway sold out!

Happy spring!
