Stay active in Frankston City during lockdownWhether you’re inside or heading out for fresh air – there’s no shortage of options for staying active thanks to both Frankston City’s beautiful environment and Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre’s free workouts online The tightening of lockdown restrictions including the closure of playgrounds, skate parks and basketball courts, is hard on families. But we're grateful to have natural gems on our doorstep. They give us a chance to take a breather and look after our well-being when things are a little tense. For those within the relevant 5 km radius of home, Frankston City offers some great places to get a nature fix. Peninsula Leisure’s PARC Your Way is an online platform which includes a library of recorded workouts and classes, all led by PARC’s instructors and personal trainers. During lockdown, PARC is also running free LIVE classes, including Active Kids classes to cater for home-schooling families. Check out the timetable. Melissa’s passion for supporting job seekers in Frankston CityFrankston City Jobs Victoria Advocate, Melissa King is living proof that it’s never too late to make a career change - and to make a difference in the lives of others. Melissa was drawn to her current role as it put to use her decades of experience across multiple industries in the community services, to support others who are looking for a job, training pathway or some direction in life. “Our program isn’t just about matching people with jobs - It’s about addressing the barriers to unemployment, and those barriers are different for everyone. “For some people it's practical support with resumes, career counselling and mock job interviews. For others, it’s listening, and making referrals to support services. “There are so many positive possibilities to discover by reaching out. Whatever you are looking for, a Jobs Victoria Advocate can help you to reach your goals“ Melissa said. We have online information sessions available over the next week. To connect with Melissa and her team, check out session times and register here. Read Jessica's vaccination story"Due to my chronic health condition, my immune system is extremely low, so it was important for me to get vaccinated as soon as eligible. "I understand there is hesitancy around the vaccine because it’s new, but from my perspective I would far rather have a minor side effect which shows my immune system is responding to the vaccine than to have COVID-19 and hope my immune system could fight it on its own. "I am tired of the lockdowns and ongoing effects this pandemic has on our lives – especially my kids'. So if there is anything I can do as an individual to contribute to the way we cope with this pandemic, I want to do my part. For me that means wearing a mask, social distancing, sanitising my hands and getting vaccinated!" Emerging artists create this gen’s Mixtape in a time of COVIDFresh from the Ebdale Recording Studio, five emerging artists are now ready to reveal their unique stories and music on a special recording – the Fresh Compilation Album 2021. The artists, ranging in age from 15 to their early twenties, recorded the album thanks to the FReeZA program that is facilitated by Frankston City Council’s Youth Services Team. The original tracks bring the artists’ perspectives on mental health, love and a fear of rejection, and finding positive momentum and a fighting spirit – across the varied musical styles of acoustic indie/folk, nostalgic synths, jazz influences and rap. The album is both a personal reflection of its contributors and a potentially iconic record of the challenges their generation is facing in the uncertain times of this pandemic. The album will be available in September - https://freshfrankston.bandcamp.com/ Lockdown doesn't stop our community having their sayWe may be in lockdown but that doesn’t stop our community getting involved in decisions that impact them.
