August 2012

Bonjour Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon Chapter Representatives!

I hope you’re having a great summer. We at the BC/Yukon Branch office have been undergoing some changes, as we get ready to move our Downtown office, and prepare for the busy back-to-school season.

Our new location  will be in La Maison de la francophonie at:

227-1555 West 7th Avenue
Vancouver BC V6J 1S1

Please Note: This will be the only CRU this month, as there was not a great deal of membership-only information. Don't forget to forward to your members!

À la prochaine Alex!

It is with a heavy heart that CPF announces that Alex Hughes, Outreach Officer since January and with the Branch since October, is hanging up her CPF cap as she will be heading to McGill Law to continue her post-secondary studies this coming fall. Alex has been an incredible addition to the CPF BC & Yukon Branch. Whether working with parents to find the best extra-curricular FSL programs for their children, supporting chapters with their reporting, or standing up for FSL programs in communities such as Tofino or Chetwynd, Alex has been a consistent, passionate, and incredibly skilled supporter of CPF Chapters and our membership.
We wish Alex all the very best in her future endeavours, and look forward to her continued contributions in advancing and strengthening Canada’s linguistic duality.

Bienvenue Kirsty!

CPF BC & Yukon is pleased to announce Kirsty Peterson has been selected as our new Outreach Officer. Kirsty, a young parent of two and a graduate of the French Immersion program, comes to CPF with a wealth of experience in community outreach and volunteer engagement. Before joining CPF Kirsty was an Outreach Counsellor & Program Coordinator with the Pacific Community Resources Society.

We’re excited to welcome Kirsty, and her passion for local engagement and membership support, to the CPF BC & Yukon Branch!

You can reach Kirsty, who has replaced the wonderful Alex Hughes as of July 12th, at outreach@cpf.bc.ca or 778.329.9114 ext. 315. Kirsty is the best person to speak to about: Membership & General Inquiries, Chapter Support & Reporting, and local advocacy issues.

Every chapter is required to submit ALL of the requested documents to be considered active and in good-standing.  This information helps our office understand how to help you, and we really appreciate the time you put in to preparing it.

Successful Communication Strategy!

AFKO, (Association des francophones des Kootenays Ouest) the West Kootenay francophone society and Nelson Chapter CPF,  successfully organized a monthly French page in the local paper – the Nelson Star.  “Voila – Votre page mensuelle en français”.    French articles, submitted by French language students (immersion, etc), francophones and Francophiles are coordinated by AFKO for the monthly submission.   Today’s edition June 20,2012 has an article submitted by the Nelson Chapter congratulating the French Immersion grads.  Attached is a pdf (apologies – it is poor quality) of the French page (page 18) .  The full page can be found online in the e-editions
