Dear colleague,

Following the recent Graduation of our first ever cohort of  Action Learning Set (ALS) Facilitator Faculty, recruitment for the programme has just opened for its third year! This exciting, challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with trainees on the Graduate Management Training Scheme is here once again and now you join us to be part of this years cohort.

Our aim is to develop a team of facilitators from the NHS – to grow skills from within rather than source them from external consultants. Our ALS facilitator faculty will be drawn from those that can demonstrate not only group facilitation and non-didactive learning skills, but also bring useful perspectives from experience and day jobs.

If you believe that you have what it takes to commit your time, energy and experience to supporting the development of our 2016 Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS) trainees – by ensuring that this critical part of their growth as future leaders is based upon real experience of the NHS – then this is the opportunity for you!

Here is what some of our current 2015 ALS facilitators have to say about this experience so far:

"Becoming an Action Learning Set facilitator has given me the opportunity to work with a brilliant set of NHS graduates. They have brought energy, enthusiasm and real leadership challenges to every set. It’s been a privilege to see them grow in confidence and capability during their graduate scheme journey. I have learned a lot about my own leadership skills and my ability to facilitate and work with others has really grown. ".  James Goodyear, Policy Manager- Commissioning Strategy Directorate, NHS England.

" The time I’ve spent as an ALS Facilitator has been great fun and a big step in my self-development.  The best thing about it has been seeing my ALS set grow into Action Learning and challenge and support each other through their issues.  At times it takes you out of your comfort zone but it’s so rewarding, I’d really recommend it" . Carolyn Cairns, Paediatric ODN Network Manager- Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our first cohort of ALS Facilitators have completed their 2 year programme and celebrated recentlty with members of their learning set at a joint Graduation Ceremony-  ALS Graduation 2013 . You can also read about the experience from a blog written by Dominique Allwood, who was one of our first cohort of ALS facilitators- 'It's not about me'.
