Last night parents of children in Year 3, who are making the Sacrament of Reconciliation this term, gathered to meet and talk with Father Greg Donovan. We explored the Gospel story of The Prodigal Son, by the end of the talk we had decided it should be renamed the Gospel story of the Merciful Father. It was a wonderful conversation that our view of Reconciliation should not be about the greatness of our sins but about the greatness of God’s goodness and love. My thanks to Clare Broad, OLG Parish Sacramental Coordinator, for her organization and for all parents who came to listen, contribute and learn. Please pray for all children making their Reconciliation this term. Another exciting series of events this term involve the Catholic Education Festival of Performing Arts. We are blessed to have a tremendous involvement in the festival and Mrs Goldie as the coordinator of the Performing Arts. We will be attending the Opening Mass for the Performing Arts this Thursday and taking our Head Boy, Oliver Tindall and Head Girl, Olivia Todd to represent all OLG students performing this year. Thank you to those parents assisting with early morning Cross Country Training at Star Swamp. Thanks to Mr Brown for organizing the before school training and for the energy and joyous running from our students. Good luck next Tuesday at the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. A commitment was made to the school community at the beginning of the year to consult and to work with staff and parents to develop a strategy for the further implementation of Information Communication Technology (ICT) into our teaching program. The current IT strategy of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has served its purpose and a new strategy is required that fully reflects our Vision for Learning and our Early Years Charter. We are so fortunate that all our classrooms are equipped with Ben Q’s thanks to the generosity of the P&F Association. This IT Strategy has been co-developed by OLG teachers, consultants from Notre Dame University and Catholic Education Office as well as parent representatives and is now ready to be communicated broadly. The initial workshop to explain the context and detail of the strategy will be held on Wednesday 7th August 6.30 -8.00pm in the MPA. Here we will explain the parameters around the implementation and the requirements for students PP – Year 3 and Year 4 – Year 6 for the school year beginning 2020. Ongoing workshops will be available throughout 2019 and 2020 to assist parents with this implementation. A workshop on cybersafety will be held on two dates September, 12th and 17th, 7.00 – 8.30pm in the Multipurpose Area. This workshop will be facilitated by an external consultant Paul Litherland who will focus on how families can use technology safely and to its full potential. The workshops are applicable to all parents who wish to keep themselves informed and up to date. God bless Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last term's assembly. Cake Stall: Thank you to the parents who supported the cake stall held at the end of last term. A total of $192 was raised for the Year 4 classes. Cross Country Practise will be during Week 1, Term 3 on Wednesday 24th July and Thursday 25th July at Star Swamp. We will meet at Groat Street car park at 7.45am. Parent help will be required. We had a fabulous introduction to Rhyme Time followed by It’s All About Play in our new venue the Pre K room. There was lots of rhyme and movement followed by lots of play with mums and Grans enjoying reading, the home corner, play dough and the outside play area. The sandpit was a hit as were the blocks and shaker making. We look forward to our next session on Friday 2nd August. Hope to see you you there. Please find attached the Canteen Menu Alternatively you can place your child's order in the class canteen bucket. If your child's order does not go through and they have no lunch, we will supply them with a sandwich. We will no longer have additional items available due to food wastage costs. We thank you for your continued support of the canteen. Flexibuzz - Tick Canteen Box SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME On the weekend we have RECONCILIATION ENQUIRY.
