Hurricane Michael: Situation Report #2

October 15, 2018

From HFI Co-Founder, Jack Minton, Donalsonville, GA:  “As I pull off to the side of the road to add another Hurricane Michael survivor to the list of roofs that need a blue tarp, I hear the sound of a horn beeping. An elderly lady pulls up alongside and rolls down her window. “Thank you, thank you, thank you! It means so much to us that you would come to help. It’s been difficult, but when we see people like you – it makes a big difference!”  The emotional relief experienced when a blue tarp is placed on a homeowner’s roof is inestimable in the aftermath of experiencing such a horrific trauma.  The tarp buys them time, and mitigates further damage to their home and the contents inside.  There may be a few other organizations offering assistance in the area, but we haven’t seen anyone else on roofs.

Our team is set up in a local church in Donalsonville, GA. Hurricane Michael ferociously blew through this town as a Cat 3 – ripping up trees and knocking down power lines all throughout this region. Trees in the streets, trees on roofs, innumerable homes in desperate need of multiple tarps to prevent further damage the next time it rains. Although county utility trucks are taking on the massive job of reestablishing electricity, no one can say when the job will be complete.  Wind damage to roofs is where we are focusing our remediation efforts.  The congregation has been gracious and welcoming, and the pastor repeatedly reminds us of how glad they are that we’re here. “By your being here, we can support you, and this helps our community. Thank you for coming!”  It is small communities like this – many times overlooked – that are the typical target for Hope Force International.

Hope Force is offering a much-needed service, but to continue, we need your help! Pray for the survivors and their recovery. Pray for more manpower to sustain our efforts.  Pray that this expression of the “Good News” brings hope, and a knowledge that the One who loves them so much called people from across the country to this little southern community to show that He has not forgotten them.

Thank you for your prayers, words of encouragement, financial support… and for those who have served — we honor and thank you!"

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION TO HFI’S HURRICANE MICHAEL RELIEF EFFORTS!  OUR HOPE AND PRAYER IS TO SERVE AS MANY AS WE CAN...AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN.
