Trial Butt BinsNew cigarette butt bins will be installed at Meadowbank train station, Pope Street in Top Ryde and West Ryde town centre as part of the EPA Butt Bin Pilot Program. This program endeavours to stop smokers from littering by providing access to infrastructure, environmental improvements, signage and soft law enforcement. Why tackle cigarette butts? The National Litter Index shows that cigarette butts are consistently the most-littered item in NSW (EPA, 2018). Cigarette butts are also unsightly, toxic and harmful to the environment.
