Financial Update:

HOPE Medical:  For project info go to:   http://www.hopemedicalproject.org

Currently the primary focus for all of Haiti Orphan Project's work is to ensure HOPE Medical's financial stability as we get closer to putting our team on the ground.  We are only $20,000 away from our target of $190,000 to be raised by June.  We recognize the need to shift focus to getting our ongoing monthly support.  Of course, one time gifts are welcome and can be factored into our overall budget, but monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly support helps us more easily track our monthly budget through the end of year 1 into year 2.  Please follow the link below if you wish to be a part of bringing healthcare to this underserved community in Gonaives.

To help us with the remaining $20,000 or to support us monthly click donate below.

Religion in Haiti

By Luke Brouwer

We have noticed over time, both amongst ourselves and those we take with us on trips to Haiti, a real curiosity about the nature of religion in Haiti. This is a natural curiosity as what we, in America, call “voodoo” originates in Haiti and tends to be sensationalized by the media as a religion of black magic spells and curses. It is hard to be sure, based on the media, what Vodou—as it is spelled in Haiti—actually is and how it relates to the evidences of Christianity, which are immediately evident upon arriving in Haiti.

As such, many of us heading to Haiti for the first time have some curiosity about Haiti's religions with little sense of what to expect. CLICK here to continue reading Religion in Haiti.

Haiti Orphan Project Update

  • We continue to be blessed and amazed to see how Philadelphia Evangelical Church grows under the leadership of Pastor Pudens Innocent. Les was there last month and took part in the baptism service where 38 people were baptized and received into church membership. Amidst all the struggles the Haitian people bravely face, God continues to build His church.
  • Haiti Orphan Project has already led three trips to Haiti this year and our fourth, a HOPE Medical trip heads out next week.  Here is a link to one of Les' recent blog posts encouraging you to consider visiting Haiti with us:

HOPE Medical Update

  • Our team is now almost halfway through our Haitian Creole lessons and we are thankful for our teacher, Gloria Board of Haitians Helping Haitians.  http://www.haitianshelpinghaitians.com.
  • We are now about 90 days away from departure and have purchased tickets to depart for Haiti June 23!
  • Our April medical trip departs on April 9, we are running three days of clinic.  We look forward to long, hard, but also, rewarding days in Haiti.
  • On this trip Luke and Julie will be staying for several extra days in Port au Prince to purchase and register the vehicle as well as visiting stores to see what we can purchase in Haiti in order to avoid the cost and hassle of shipping things in from the states.

We would welcome your prayers for:

Truck purchase: Please pray that everything goes smoothly in April with the purchasing and registering of this vehicle because these processes are not typically very straight-forward in Haiti.

Finances: That Haiti Orphan Project and HOPE Medical will continue to be blessed with the funds necessary to continue our work.

Homeschooling: For wisdom and guidance as our team continues to discuss and plan for the homeschooling of the Brouwer children.

The Church of Philadelphia: We are thankful for the news of our partner churches continued growth and impact on their community.

Berlange Jean: We continue to be thankful for Berlange and her partner Jonas, for their hospitality as they host our Haiti Orphan Project vision trips, our medical teams, as well as, for the great living situation they have provided our HOPE Medical team. Please pray for this important partnership as we discuss our transition to Haiti.
