Armed with an extensive medical and surgical knowledge base of otolaryngic disease processes, Dr. Southwood can extend management of allergic ENT disorders to involve allergy testing, patient education, and discussion and initiation of various treatment modalities. READ MORE NEW - Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery FellowshipThe Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is proud to announce a fellowship at MCW that offers comprehensive training in the full breadth of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and microvascular reconstruction, including surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures, functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty, aging face surgery, facial reanimation, skin cancer reconstruction, facial trauma, microvascular reconstruction, congenital abnormalities, and vascular anomalies. Faculty HighlightsJohn Rhee, MD, MPH ’04 is currently serving a term as President of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Rhee’s tenure has been very eventful with the first virtual exams and initiation of sub-certification in complex pediatric otolaryngology. Michael Stadler, MD became the Chief Medical Officer of Froedtert Hospital and Medical College of Wisconsin Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs effective July 2020 amid a global pandemic. Dr. Stadler’s commitment to leadership and patient care is endless. Valerie Flanary, MD GME ’94 FEL ’95 was appointed Director of Racial Equity and Inclusion for the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion in January 2021, an admirable commission amid national racial injustice. Stephen Conley, MD retired from practice in June 2020. Dr. Conley was a pediatric otolaryngologist at Children’s Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin since 1989. His commitment to teaching and patient care over the years is much-admired by both colleagues and learners. Alumni UpdateDuring 2020, the department lost three wonderful alumni and friends. Each of them contributed in important ways both during and after their residency training and were model physicians. Ronald Darling, MD - class of 1967 Residency UpdateThe past year-and-a-half brought change to the MCW otolaryngology residency program, both in leadership and adaptability. Dr. Thomas Robey transitioned into the role of Program Director, following Dr. David Poetker’s GME ’06 reign of almost nine years. The resident’s entire educational curriculum was revamped to consist of a three-hour protected education block on Tuesday afternoons, including didactics that cover all subspecialties, humanities, global health, business of medicine, patient safety and quality improvement, research, Journal Club, M&M, Grand Rounds, mock orals, in-service preparation, and various hands-on labs and courses.
