Given that only 5.4% of children consume their recommended daily serves of vegetables, as found in the 2014-15 National Health Survey, it is important to provide opportunities to promote and improve children’s vegetable consumption. We have created a fact sheet that aims to provide more information and solutions to assist with menu planning that includes a variety of foods from the vegetables and legumes/beans food group. Breakfast Top TipsElement 2.1.3 - Healthy Lifestyle Assessors may observe: Children being provided with food that is consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia Breakfast is an important meal for children to start their day, providing them with the fuel that they need to maintain energy levels and concentration for the day ahead. We have put together some top tips for maximising breakfast at your service - check out our resources on breakfast ideas and choosing breakfast cereals below! RecipesFollowing on from the breakfast top tips above, here are two new breakfast recipes that incorporate fruit into some common and popular breakfast options - porridge and pancakes. Feel free to share these recipes with families of your service or include them on your menu (the ingredients are easy to multiply to make larger quantities). These recipes could be prepared by staff and children during your morning breakfast service, or they could also be used in a hands-on cooking activity - get the children involved in measuring, chopping, mixing and flipping, where appropriate.
