PARK SLOPE FITNESS

Guest Editors Nurit Dallimore and Lisa Craig

The brainchild of Nurit Dallimore and Lisa Craig, Cycle Bar is Park Slope's only dedicated indoor cycling spot and brings Manhattan-style fitness sophistication to Brooklyn. We asked them for their favorite fitness spots in the Slope and here's what they picked.

Do the Spin Cycle

Do the Spin Cycle

We're both busy moms, so we wanted to create a work-out that could really work for time-challenged people. Our super-clean, super-friendly indoor cycling center offers killer classes that are 45-, 60- or 90- minutes in duration. Our instructors are motivational and hands-on; expect lots of attention and guidance. Beware: once you get started, you might get hooked!

Running on Full

Running on Full

We love the selection offered by this place; great running shoes and all-around exercise gear, like hoodies, tops and pants. We also like the fitting process for the sneakers; they videotape you running on a treadmill, so they can see how you move before recommending the shoes that will fit you right.

Get Cyc'ed

Get Cyc'ed

Although this bike shop is in Sunset Park, we love this place and think it's well worth the trip. Mr. C's Cycles is a well-stocked store that carries everything from racing to recreational bikes. Plus, there are machines that match shoes and bikes to riders, ensuring a perfect fit every time. We buy all our bike gear here.

Making a Splash

This clean new pool is owned and operated by the Berkeley Carroll School, a private school a few blocks away.  But you don't need any affliation with the school in order to buy a swim card. They go for $220 for 20 visits for adult lap swim; A $250 pass lets parents in all year and allows them to bring the kids Sun during the school year and Tue - Fri during the summer. The vibe is low-key, pleasant and very neighborhood friendly.

We like the owner Spela Sterle very much. She's warm, no-nonsense and very down-to-earth. And she offers an excellent Pilates class in a relaxed and non-competitve environment.

The instructors at Dancewave—Isadora Wolfe, Laura Stein and Maggie Lloyd to name a few—offer a wide variety of classes for kids and adults; choose from ballet, modern, hip hop and more. The atmosphere is very warm and inclusive, and the training is solid, too.

See Kiddies Run

Sean and Firelei Rice, a husband-and-wife team, have created a nurturing yet disciplined indoor/outdoor running club for kids aged 6-12.  We laud them for creating a community based program that gives kids tangible skills while encouraging them to strive for their personal best. The team meets on Tue and Thur, 4 to 6PM at the Prospect Park Baseball Fields; register here.
