"Aquí y Allá" Mural Documentary and Panel on Immigration

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

6:00- 8:00 pm

Location: Juntos 2029 South 8th Street, Philadelphia, Pa.

The “Aquí y Allá” transnational public art project explored the impact of immigration in the lives of Mexican immigrant youth in South Philadelphia in connection with youth in Chihuahua, Mexico.

I invite you to come and see the video documentary, which demonstrates the creative process and shares first hand testimonials of young Mexican immigrant students in Philadelphia and Mexico and how they have been impacted by immigration.

The documentary will be presented along with Juntos, a Latino immigrant community led organization in Philadelphia fighting for our human rights as workers, parents, youth, and immigrants.

After the film, I will join a panel discussion with community leaders in Juntos to discuss the current state of immigration in the U.S. and how you can get involved and become a leader in the immigrant rights movement here in Philadelphia.

A Vigil for Deported Family Members

On February 13th, Juntos organized a demonstration to draw attention to the massive deportations and to demand comprehensive immigration reform. Families gathered in front of the "Aquí y Allá" mural and hung “broken hearts” on the fence with the name of someone in the community who has been deported.
