All About the Beer - Texas Craft Brewers Bring It for 2014 Texas Craft Brewers Festival, Sept. 27 in Austin

Austin, TX -- September 12, 2014 -- The official beer list for the 2014 Texas Craft Brewers Festival is now online, offering a diverse mix of Texas-crafted brews and styles. The Rotating Tap list, a program where special beers are tapped on the half-hour throughout the festival, will be announced next week and feature at least 20 more brews. Review the main beer list here.

Presented by H-E-B and Silver Eagle Distributors, and produced by the Young Men’s Business League of Austin and the Texas Craft Brewers Guild, the festival is the state’s largest craft beer event focused exclusively on Texas-produced craft beer.

No surprise, hop-forward Indian pale ales (IPAs) and their only slightly muted cousins, pale ales, reign supreme when looking at the style breakdown, as is the national trend for craft beer. Likewise, sours, saisons and farmhouse ale styles continue to gain popularity, having come from relative obscurity just a few years ago.

  • IPAs / Pales - 28.3%
  • Wheats  - 12.5%
  • Blacks / Browns / Reds / Rye - 12.5%
  • Imperials / Doubles - 11.7%
  • Stouts / Darks / Strongs - 10.0%
  • Sours / Saisons / Farmhouse - 8.3%
  • Pumpkins / Oktoberfests - 6.7%
  • Blondes / Goldens - 6.7%
  • Other - 3.3%

In terms of geographical style types, the list breaks down fairly evenly across the major craft beer-producing regions, with fruit (yah! pumpkin!), vegetable, pepper and herb styles mixing things up at 9.2%:

  • American - 26.7%
  • Belgian - 20.0%
  • German - 20.0%
  • English / Scottich / Irish - 17.5%
  • Fruit / Veggie / Pepper - 9.2%
  • Other - 4.2%

Note: percentages based on informal appraisal of aggregated style information submitted by Texas craft brewers.

Want a teaser for the event? If local to Austin, visit Cafe Mueller at 1801 E 51st Street, where presenting sponsor H-E-B showcases True Texas Brews throughout the year. Right now, they have the original brews of Independence Brewing's Stash IPA and Live Oak's Oaktoberfest on tap, variations of which will be pouring at the festival. A great way to compare, get over early and often, as more great True Texas Brews get rotated in.

The Texas Craft Brewers Festival benefits Austin Sunshine Camps, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing mentorship, education and personal development for high-potential, low-income girls and boys throughout Central Texas. The conseccionaire is Kamala Brewing at the Whip In.

The event is made possible by the generous support of H-E-B and Silver Eagle Distributors along with:
