Due to a cancellation, we have room for one more foursome. Please register online. This year we will be offering the opportunity to all CHS families to place absentee bids for the Live Auction. An independent third party will bid on behalf of the absentee bidder at the dinner. More details to come.

Conversation with Admissions
CHS parents are invited to join the Admissions Team on Tuesday May 28 at 8:30 am at an informal Q&A where they will hear from Richard Cohee, Director, Admissions. Richard and his team will lead a discussion about the admissions process and financial assistance for new students entering Grade 8 and parents will have the opportunity to ask questions.

We know that many extraordinary students and families come to Crofton House through word-of-mouth from our community members. This session will leave parents better informed about the admissions process and financial assistance.

Please RSVP by Friday May 24 for the session:

  • 8:30 am to 9:30 am, Nocente Family Fireplace Lounge

STEM Conference in Victoria
Junior School and Senior School students attended the STEM Conference at St. Margaret’s School in Victoria. Surrounded on the theme of sustaining our future, 400 students in grades 7 to 10 from the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island heard female leaders from across all disciplines share their stories of integrity, environmental stewardship, and green innovation.

Top Accolades at Music Festivals
Students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 participated in the Kiwanis Music Festival this past month and received top accolades for their performances in choir, orchestra and band.

  • The Grade 7 Choir received a gold standard and was chosen by the festival adjudicators to compete in the provincial festival, Performing Arts BC, and have received an invitation to perform in Ottawa at MusicFest Canada.
  • The Grade 7 Band received a silver standard
  • The combined senior Orchestra and Concert Band received gold with a recognition as the most promising Band or Orchestra. Students will be donating the prize draw for their recognition to the St. James Music Academy, which provides free classical music lessons to at-risk children and youth in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
  • The Senior Choir and Chamber Choir participated in the non-graded category and worked with choral experts.

In addition, the Grade 8/9 Band and Junior Choir both received a gold standing for their performances at the Whistler Con Brio Music Festival. Congratulations to our musicians!

CHS Herb Garden
As part of their Seasonal Eating and Sustainable Nutrition Unit, Food Studies 8 students gathered around the herb garden managed by SAGE Dining to learn about herbs, spices, and growing locally. With a little help from chef Andrea Macleod, students picked herbs they could use to make tea in class and also learned how they are used for the School’s daily lunches.

Senior Kindergarten Students Learning to Code
Senior Kindergarten students were introduced to the basics of coding – telling a computer what to do. Through play with unplugged and hands-on activities, students took turns being a “robot” while the rest of the class gave silent directions. They also had a helper name Bluebot to assist in directional language and act as a device for the girls to input directions. Learning to code this early teaches these girls to be active users, be persistent in problem solving, and to start thinking like a programmer.
