Join the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center as we again help to raise funds for the Battle of the Valleys Challenge. Since 2007, our office has collected/donated over $1200 to the BOTV!

Beginning Monday, November 10th through Friday, November 14th we will be a collection point for donations toward this worthy cause. Donations made in the advising center will be matched up to $100. We have been challenged to collect $1 for every faculty and staff member in the college...help us make that happen!

What is Battle of the Valleys?

Battle of the Valleys (BOTV) has become a long-standing tradition at Grand Valley State University. It works to create a connection between students, alumni, local businesses, and the surrounding community through a friendly competition between our school and our rival, Saginaw Valley State University. The competition helps to develop a sense of pride and gets our students to unite behind a great cause. Each university picks their own local charity to raise money for the week prior to the football game between GVSU and SVSU

Get the official T-Shirt!

Join the staff of the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center by wearing the official t-shirt of this year's BOTV on Friday November 14th. The shirts cost just $10 in the bookstore and the money raised through shirt sales goes toward the BOTV challenge.

Buy donuts

Wait! What? Yep you can have fresh made Post Family Farm donuts delivered to your (or any another GVSU) office this week! We will have some to give out in our offce on Friday...but you have to donate to get one!

Support the Allendale Public School's Holiday Helpers Program

Deb DeLooff is a criminal justice major who works as the Student Service Coordinator, Homeless Liaison, Parent Educator and Volunteer Coordinator for Allendale Public Schools

Last year Allendale Public Schools had 108 students who were considered homeless by the legal definition. The number is shocking to most people, especially those who live, study or work in Allendale.

Allendale is not much different in numbers than most cities of our size. However, being rural does present a few more obstacles to maneuver, such as lack of public transportation, lack of shelters and lack of service centers in the community.

The Holiday Helpers program at APS partners with Love, INC and is designed to provide basic needs (pajamas, socks, underwear, etc.) for the students, yet also provide parents with an opportunity to "shop" for items for their children so that they can hand pick and wrap these items for gifts at the holidays. There over 70 elementary school aged families, 10 middle school aged, and 25 high school students in need this year. These families and students are not being served by any other organization as APS and Love, INC cross match with other organizations.

The needs of the elementary school families are covered within the school district but often the needs of the older middle and high school aged students go unmet. That's where the CCPS-UAC and our colleagues and friends can help! LEARN MORE

9th Annual Majors Fair a Success!

Faculty and Staff from CCPS units joined with representatives from across the university at GVSU's 9th Annual Academic Majors Fair. The Majors Fair offers an opportunity for students to explore major choice options with faculty from various departments across the University. This event also provides an informal way for students to engage with faculty members and alumni to discuss major choices and future career opportunities.

There were 580 GVSU students and 70 dual enrollment students  from area high schools in attendance. Thank you to all of the CCPS faculty and staff who helped make this event a success!

Early Alert Initiative: Midterm Contact

keep calm and get good grades

On October 16th the staff of the CCPS Undergraduate Advising Center made contact with over 260 CCPS students who received a university midterm grade report. These reports are made available in myBanner to every student who has earned less than 25 college credits or is on academic review. Our contact is to prompt students to review their midterm grades, provide information about our advising services and workshops, inform them of policies and deadlines, and to provide general outreach for those students who may be struggling academically at this point in the semester.
