Click here In this issue • Consultation: 24 – 30 GHz use in New Zealand Consultation: 24 – 30 GHz use in New ZealandRadio Spectrum Management is considering the best value use of radio spectrum from 24 - 30 GHz. This consultation proposes new uses of spectrum between 24.25 GHz and 30 GHz. This frequency range encompasses the “26 GHz” and “28 GHz” bands. Radio Spectrum Management has analysed the technologies and applications in use, or proposed for use, in the 24 - 30 GHz frequency band. Given the emerging equipment eco-system and global harmonisation trends, we propose the 26 GHz band primarily for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) use. This use includes Enhanced Mobile Broadband (EMBB), Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and industry verticals. For 28 GHz, we propose sharing between IMT, Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) and Earth Stations in Motion (ESIM). We have also considered the technical requirements for the radio services using these bands. The technical requirements include unwanted emission limits, network synchronisation options and sharing methods. This consultation seeks to gather views from stakeholders on our proposals. We are interested in understanding the use cases and gaining feedback on licensing options and technical parameters that will determine how the band is planned.
