Election Day is here! Polls close at 9:00 pm in New York City, so you still have time to vote. As you vote today or prepare for the week ahead, CPC would like to share the following resources:
I. Preparing to Vote
II. Preparing for a Prolonged Result
III. Mental Health & Safety Resources
IV. Promoting Civic Engagement and Voting
I. Preparing to Vote: If you are voting today, please remember:- You can find your poll site here: https://findmypollsite.vote.nyc/ Your site today may be different from the Early Voting sites advertised last week.
- You can skip the
line with your absentee ballot: It's too late to return your ballot by mail, but you can skip the line and drop off your ballot at any of the above locations. If dropping off, you can use a location different from what's assigned to you.
- Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Always stay in line! If you are in line before 9:00 pm, you are still allowed to vote, even past the official close time.
- Report issues or questions: If you encounter any problems or witness voters being intimidated or turned away, report it to 866-OUR-VOTE (English and Spanish) or 866-API-VOTE (Asian and Pacific Islander languages).
II. Preparing for a Prolonged Result: Voting ends today, but the ballot count will continue! Remember:Watch your mailbox! New York State allows voters to correct minor errors (missing signatures, unsealed envelopes) before discarding their vote. Check the status of your
absentee ballot or watch for notices asking you to "cure" your ballot. Every vote counts: Some states have ballot return deadlines as late as November 22nd. This will prolong national election results. Recounts and vote curing are an important safeguard, especially for newly naturalized and non-native English speaking voters. Election material instructions can be complicated. Our communities deserve to have their ballots count. All of these protections may mean a delayed
result. Whether the 2000 Presidential election or this summer's New York primary, some elections aren't called until nearly two months after votes are cast.
A prolonged count can cause uncertainty, anxiety, and an opportunity for disinformation. We would like to share these resources with you so that you can have accurate information on the importance of a full, complete count.
III. Mental Health & Safety Resources: Please see below for resources to preserve your safety and mental health:
IV. Promoting Civic Engagement and Voting: CPC has partnered with 12 community-based organizations to launch NYC Nonprofits Turnout, a nonpartisan initiative to build on current civic engagement and voting across New York City’s human services sector and the communities we serve in order to reshape our political and economic systems. Together, we are increasing voter turnout and growing the power of the nonprofit sector. We are encouraging
community members and families, staff and leadership, board members, and funding partners to vote in today’s election and in the city elections in 2021. CPC thanks you for your support and your commitment to democracy.
