Yes! Leadership camp is all about co-operation

modo yes!

The YES is a summer co-operative leadership camp that provides week long retreats for teenagers from all over BC. The camp focuses on areas of self-awareness, co-operation, communication, and global awareness. The YES builds a strong foundation of co-operative skills and values for leaders of tomorrow.

It’s also active fun! Participants get to enjoy hiking and canoeing with emphasis on wilderness training and environmental stewardship.

Because it’s the International Year of Co-operatives, Modo would like to send two youths to The YES Camp this year. We sponsor members’ children first and foremost – but other family members will be considered! If you’d like to nominate your youth to be sponsored, email annika@modo.coop by June 5, 2012.

Note to parents: we’ve noticed that the more excited you are about the camp, the less the kids want to go. So – be cool folks! Facebook Like Button

Bike to Work Week May 28 through June 1

Bike to Work is a program of HUB: Your Cycling Connection. Bike to Work Week encourages avid cyclists and new riders alike to sign up, log their commutes, win prizes, and be a part of making Metro Vancouver a better place to live, work and play. More people on bikes means our city is more liveable and sustainable. Modo loves it!

Vancouver Farmers Markets
The 2012 market season has started and you’ll once again find the Vancouver Farmers Markets at five locations this year: Trout Lake*, Kitsilano*, West End, Main Street, and Kerrisdale. Modo is a proud sponsor of the market: we support this organization that is driven to create a sustainable local food economy. Visit eatlocal.org for a full listing of market and festival dates.
*The Bicycle Valet is available at this location.

LOCO Business Mixer June 5 at Recycling Alternative
Recycling Alternative began with a hatchback and two hardy individuals more than 20 years ago. They collected paper from offices with no recycling programs, all before blue boxes were part of our weekly lives. Come on down to the next LOCO mixer and learn more about how this locally owned business is expanding their services to create a more sustainable community. It’s always a great time.

MEC Bikefest Vancouver June 23
This free community event is all about bringing together Vancouver’s cycling community – seasoned veterans and newbies – to celebrate cycling. There are lots of activities planned for the day including an MEC Bike Swap, parent-child bike maintenance workshops, a stunt show and bike demos, and much more. Modo’s supporting MEC Bikefest because most of our members are active cyclists and yes, we want to see more people on bikes!

modo rental partners

Sometimes renting a vehicle makes more sense than carsharing. Rental agencies offer competitive pricing on day rates, plus you can start your rental outside of Metro Vancouver.

Modo has partnerships with two rental companies: Dollar Thrifty and Enterprise Rent-a-Car. The two companies have different offers for Modo members. Use our handy trip cost calculator to help you with your transportation choice and don’t forget about our travel insurance perk through The Co-operators if you’re going cross-border.
