Violent attacks are on the rise in Burkina Faso, many of them targeting government institutions and Christian communities. Ismaila Kane explains that these are driven by a weakening of the state over the last ten years which makes it easier for violent groups – like bandits, local militias and jihadists – to emerge and thrive.
