Forest Products Working Group Membership Now Open!

We are excited to announce that membership to the Forest Products Working Group (FPWG) is now open! This past October, we introduced the FPWG with eight founding members from across different industries, which brings together leading companies that rely on paper, wood, and other forest products to share their knowledge to tackle unmet challenges in the forest products sector. Any company that relies on forest products to meet its business objectives is now invited to join the group.

For its inaugural project, the group is developing a set of clear, science-based guidelines to inform decision-making for paper design, procurement, use, and recovery. Future opportunities for projects include increasing the availability of fiber sourced from sustainably managed forests, increasing the quantity and quality of recovered fiber, and exploring the benefits of alternative fibers. Please consider joining other leadership companies in this important effort to improve the health of the world’s forests. If you are interested in membership, please visit our website for more information or to apply, or feel free to contact us with any questions.

How 2 Recycle Label Now on REI Products

Image

In addition to various Seventh Generation packages, the How 2 Recycle label is now on REI Multi Towels, which come in a variety of sizes, weights, and colors. You can check out the label at your local REI store.

There are also new ways to connect with us about the SPC’s Packaging Recovery Label System. The consumer survey portion of the how2recycle.info website is now live, which we hope will help us gather valuable consumer feedback about the label throughout the pilot phase. In addition, we recently launched the How 2 Recycle Facebook page to provide regular updates about the label and gather additional feedback. There remains an opportunity for both SPC members and other interested companies to get involved in the Packaging Recovery Label System pilot, so please contact Anne Bedarf for more information on this important effort.

The Next Decade: Five Trends in Product Sustainability

The following is an excerpt from a blog post on GreenBlue's blog, In the Loop. Read all recent posts.

This year marks GreenBlue’s 10th anniversary. One way we plan to recognize this milestone is to organize a series of articles about the future of the sustainability, products, and business. At the end of our first decade, what will the next decade bring for GreenBlue and the broader sustainability movement? Through the coming year, watch this space for features and interviews with visionaries, thought leaders, business innovators, scientists, and educators. The question we’ll put to everyone will be this: Over the next decade, what will be the most important ideas and trends that will advance business toward sustainability?

To kick it off, we took a stab at answering this question ourselves looking at product sustainability. Together, the whole staff identified nearly a hundred topics and narrowed them down to a handful. Here are GreenBlue’s top five topics that we believe will become increasingly important for product sustainability in the coming years. Read More

Select In the Loop posts will now be featured on GreenBiz, so please be sure to follow us there as well.
